Festival News - Flamingo Pier celebrates 10 years on Waiheke
/ Ginelle CocksThe annual festival Flamingo Pier Waiheke returns to celebrate a decade of magical dancefloor moments on the island this summer on Saturday, February 8th.
The festival held on Waiheke Island, Aotearoa, is a haven for lovers of the groovier side of dance music, set at the boutique idyllic venue of Ahipao. Just a 35-minute ferry ride from Auckland CBD, followed by a 200m walk - Ahipao provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle for all dance music lovers to get amongst.
The day and night party spans across two dancefloors, the main stage set outdoors amongst lush native trees with views of the sea and stunning sunset views over Matiatia Bay - and the second stage set indoors for a change of scenery and another chance to connect.
As Flamingo Pier Waiheke approaches its tenth year in operation, they welcome a lineup of three stellar international artists, joined by some of the finest talent from right here on our doorstep. Chicago Disco legend Sadar Bahar, Amsterdam's Dekmantel + Rush Hour favourite Kamma, and London's Make A Dance join a stacked local lineup including Frank Booker, Nathan Haines (DJ/live), Bontempo, Carlotta & Scarlett and rounding the night off with the festival’s very own Flamingo Pier, playing a DJ set on the indoor stage plus as a 5-piece band on the main outdoor stage, with Nathan Haines on the Saxophone and Flute.
The legends behind the festival are the disco-boogie trio appropriately named Flamingo Pier. After a jam-packed year of touring and the release of their EP ‘Supro’ on London’s Soundway Records - Luke Walker, Dom Jones and Brad Craig are stoked to welcome in its tenth year. Luke says “We’re so grateful to still be dancing together on the island a decade in. All of this year’s artists have been part of the story so far. It’s a celebration of the family we’re lucky to have through the parties and music”.
The festival is a result of a group who are firstly long-standing friends. Their collaboration process began in Hackney Wick, London, where they were living in a warehouse DJing together alongside friends Jess and Tom Seaton. After finding success through putting on monthly parties at a local cafe, they decided to take these parties back to their roots to share their love of dance music with Aotearoa - and Flamingo Pier Waiheke was born.
The multifaceted group are consistently either in music-making or festival curating mode, with an ultimate goal of sharing consistently good music with the world - which they are set to deliver through this year's lineup.
Tickets can be secured from 6:00pm on Thursday, December 5th by signing up to Flamingo Pier’s mailing list - registration cutting off at 5pm that day - which will provide you with a password ahead of time. Thereafter, General Sale will begin from 9:00am on Friday, December 6th. After selling out tickets in advance last year, event-goers are encouraged to get in quick.
“The past 10 years have been a beautiful ride together - thank you for being part of it. We can’t wait to celebrate with you on the island!” - Luke, Dom and Brad of Flamingo Pier
