Today sees the release of 2023 Breakthrough Artist Of The Year ARIA Award Winners Teenage Dads highly anticipated sophomore album, Majordomo, coming six years on from the release of their 2018 debut record, Potporri Lake. The sophomore record marks a pivotal moment for the breakthrough act who since their debut have sold out numerous headline shows in their home country and across the globe, garnered critical acclaim for their previous releases and have been nominated for and taken home multiple awards recognising their exponential growth.

Featuring recent singles ‘Weaponz, ‘I Like It’, ‘Tale Of A Man’ and ‘Speedracer’as well as eight never-heard-before tracks, Majordomo offers a fusion of the band’s soundscapes blending nostalgic, colourful arrangements amongst punchy, alt-rock anthems that pay tribute to the band’s earlier sound highlighting the band's growth since their debut.

“A Majordomo is a person whose job is to make arrangements or take charge for another: someone who runs the enterprise,” the band says of the new record.

“We wanted to take that word and explore themes of control: how sometimes you might be the majordomo seizing the day, and others you are falling from the sky in a box, unable to do anything”.

Written, recorded and produced over the past two years working closely with Chris Collins (Royel Otis, The Buoys, Tyne-James Organ), the band explain “We recorded ‘Speedracer’ first in 4 hours … ‘I Like It’ and ‘Tale Of A Man’ came next and Summer 2023-2024 was when we bunkered down in the studio to record and finish everything and then some. So it has been a long journey for sure, but all the songs still feel so fresh to us which is exciting”.

Majordomo is not just a musical evolution but a testament to Teenage Dads'commitment to authenticity and artistic integrity.

Album opener and focus track ‘Boarding Pass’ sets up listeners for the sonic journey they’re about to embark on throughout Majordomo.

“From quite early on in the recording phase we all agreed that ‘Boarding Pass’ should open the album … Not only do the opening guitars feel right as an opening but as a whole, this song feels like it captures sounds from all points of the album; it's vocally anthemic, the guitars rock out yet they also lay back at times and there's even some worldly percussion in there” the band say of the focus track. “In the context of the lyrics, the song begins with the flight crew addressing the passengers before take off so that kind of literally represents us preparing the listeners for the rest of the album.”

About Teenage Dads:

From the moment Teenage Dads pulled together the first strains of early singles like ‘Devil’s Jam’ and ‘Sunburnt’, they knew they were striving for something different. Refusing to stay within the bounds of stock-standard Australian indie, the four-piece from Melbourne created melodies and rhythms that collided disparate worlds: early 2000s NYC indie, ‘80s acts like Devo and Talking Heads, the explosiveness of bands like Two Door Cinema Club, and something else that was entirely their own. It’s been clear, throughout releases like the acclaimed CLUB ECHO and 2023 EP MIDNIGHT DRIVING, that Teenage Dads are in a league of their own. Now with a string of fresh new singles to their name, the band have truly solidified themselves within the alternative pop rock scene.

Meeting at school, bandmates Jordan Finlay (vocals/multi-instrumentalist), Vincent Kinna (drums), Angus Christie (bass) and Connor McLaughlin (guitar) quickly locked on the foundation of Teenage Dads: compact, propellant rhythms, and lyrics that could tug at heartstrings or conjure laughter. They were committed to being a live band first and foremost, and they quickly earned a reputation for ferociously energetic sets, finding them fans across Australia, North America, England and Europe.

Teenage Dads closed out last year playing 94 shows globally across 10 countries, and 3 continents, selling over 15 thousand tickets. The band also made their Splendour In The Grass debut, joining the Groovin The Moo festival national tour plus Yours & Owls and SXSW Sydney in 2023 (playing as Rolling Stone’s Surprise Act). The release of their last EP MIDNIGHT DRIVING debuted at #2 in the ARIA album charts, and notably, the band wrapped up the year by taking home the 2023 ARIA Award for Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Of The Year.

The band kicked off 2024 with a run of festival appearances across the country with Laneway Festival and Tasmania’s Party In The Paddock, Teenage Dads thenheaded overseas to play headline shows across the US, Canada, UK + Europe and make their debut international festival appearances at the UK’s Tunes In The Dunes, A Stones Throw Festival, Block Party Festival and Italy’s Fans Out Festival, before returning home to release their sophomore record and playing their biggest AU/NZ tour to date.
