Sons Of Zion set for NZ tour
/As their popularity continues to soar around the globe, Kiwi band Sons of Zion are bringing the love home to Aotearoa with an extensive nationwide tour.
The six piece - consisting of Rio Panapa, Samuel Eriwata, Joe Latimer, Zane Graham, Caleb Haapu and Matt Sadgrove - kick off their road trip in Rotorua on August 5. They’ll then criss-cross the North Island taking their unique fusion of rock, dub, R’n’B, with the foundation of reggae, to the people of New Zealand.
Sons of Zion have gone from strength to strength since forming in 2007 and releasing their debut self-titled album in 2009. They hit their stride three years later with the release of the hit song ‘Good Love’, which has since clocked up an astounding 1.1 million plus views on YouTube. They followed it up with the equally successful ‘Tell Her’, scoring #1 Airplay on the NZ charts.
Their sophomore album Universal Love debuted at #3 on the Top 40 Album Chart, with the single ‘Superman’ establishing them as one of the country’s leading roots, reggae bands.
Sons of Zion have since carved out a name for themselves as one of the top live bands on the world stage. They’ve toured with prominent Kiwi acts such as Katchafire, Kora, Black Seeds and Ladi6 and last summer played at some of the biggest festivals in New Zealand, from One Love and East Coast Vibes to Rhythm N Alps and Homegrown.
And love for the band stretches far beyond southern hemisphere shores. They’re a sought-out live act on the international festival circuit and are hot property in Australia and the United States, including Hawaii where they’ve had three number one singles.
Now, with work underway for a new album, their new single ‘Hungover’ a hit on radio, a US tour lined up for later in the year, and a return to the One Love Festival also on the cards, Sons of Zion are looking forward to taking their music back to where it all began - the towns and cities of New Zealand.
