Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Vol.1 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

By Scott Birnie

Released Friday July 25th, 2014 - UMusic

Remember Dazed and Confused? Or how about Pulp Fiction? Both by themselves brilliant pieces of cinematic history, but combined with their respective soundtracks? Unforgettable. Guardians follows this trend and in doing so makes one of the best comedies of the decade along with one of the best soundtracks we've heard in years.

Combining space, aliens, comedy, war and 70's pop is probably the most original idea to come out of Hollywood in recent memory. Most superhero movies of late take a dark and brooding angle on the genre, choosing rather to display the pain of the main characters story and the demons he must confront to seemingly just survive. A great recipe but one that ‘Guardians' avoid to brilliant affect. Peter Quill/Starlord, our main character has a painful story to tell, but instead uses light hearted comic relief and a killer soundtrack to overcome his past.

From Cherry Bomb to Come And Get My Love, Jackson 5David Bowie and 10cc there is something for everyone on here. Not only does the soundtrack make sense with each song being delivered in perfect sync with each comedic scene, the executive producers have gone further by remastering each track to sound as though they are being played through Peter Quill's signature Walkman or on board (spaceship) tape deck.
Hilariously brilliant movie, Go and see it now, and brilliantly constructed soundtrack, upbeat, lively and nostalgic. I can't wait for the next Guardians movie, and soundtrack Vol 2.
