Concert Review - Troye Sivan - Auckland - 30th July 2016
/By Teylor Moss
Artist: Troye Sivan
Date / Venue: Saturday July 30th, 2016- Town Hall, Auckland
Broadening his horizons, Troye Sivan crossed the ditch for his debut performances in New Zealand. Performing last night at the infamous Auckland Town Hall, the show was completely sold out!
Tickets were so in demand, they announced a second date for the Sunday. A perfectly executed concert, you can tell everyone had pulled their weight!
To get the night started, Tigertown took to the stage. Filled with an enormous amount of energy that they threw to the crowd and they were giving right back. With bass so low, not a single person wasn’t dancing. After performing their half an hour set and getting the crowd pumped, with a flick of a switch that was the end of Tigertowns show.
Piercing bright white lights came on in a flash and a shadow of the one and only Troye Sivan emerged, making the crowd go wild (sorry) with his first song 'Bite'.
I absolutely loved his stage presence, singing each note to perfection with heart and soul. Not only that but Troye's an incredible dancer, my gosh I couldn’t get over it. Lights were darting across every inch of the hall, fans were screaming their lungs out and jumping so high, for a moment I believed the balcony was going to collapse!
Accompanying Troye on the stage last night was Carina on piano / back up vocals & Adam on drums / guitar. These two were astounding. Perfectly complementing Troye's vocals and vibe, Adam thrashing the drums with ease and tricky technique, while Carina laid out a smooth slightly jazzy feel that ties the whole thing together. A triumphant trio, who destroyed the stage in perfect unison.
With each song, the entire crowd would help Troye sing. Knowing every word, I've never been so impressed by a crowd before. Hitting every note, they were sounding pretty talented too! Troye should come back soon and record a live song.
Overall it was an amazingly executed concert, perfecting each song and performing a cover of one of my favourite songs 'Love Is A Losing Game' by Amy Winehouse, just topped the night for me.
If you ever get the opportunity to see Troye Sivan live, you take it.
