Concert Review - Tove Lo with Special Guests Tigertown Play Harmonious 'Vibes.'

Last Friday night we found ourselves heading to the famous and vibrant Melbourne suburb of St Kilda to see Tove Lo with special guests Tigertown at The Prince Bandroom. Sydney's alt-pop family Tigertown have found themselves touring our country with the artist whose single 'Vibes' they have recently remixed. 

With the room already near full capacity Tigertown are embraced by the eager audience shortly after doors open. There is a wave of overwhelming happiness that overcomes the face of front woman Charlie Collins who can not remove the smile from her voice and her expression. 

The band layer the air with a wave of harmonies as almost every member dives in on vocal duties as their brand of alt-pop confidently shows its prowess. It's not long before the adoring Melbourne fans have been won over. Tigertown are well and truly on the radar of Australian and international music industry representatives as a band to watch. 

It's not long before the lights go out, sending the audience into a frenzy thanks to the short and efficient changeover between acts. Tove Lo's band make their way to the stage before the strong, charismatic Swede runs into her first dose of her Melbourne fan base, ripping into first songs 'True Disaster' and 'Lady Wood'.

The early parts of the set are high energy, uplifting and simply powerful. We are in a club environment like no other and Tove Lo brings us a taste of her unique twist of European electro-pop that has gained her a massive International reputation in recent years. With confidence and ease she dances into the night with her fans fully captivated and engaged throughout her entire performance. 

For a relatively small intimate venue the sound is like that of an arena and we can feel the breath and motion of the band like they're right on top of us. This intimacy is elevated when the band deliver ‘Vibes', beginning with acoustic guitar which then flows into a duet between Tove Lo and her touring guitarist.

By now the room is pumping and sweaty and the night is still young. It seems for some, this night may not end after the band close out with hit single 'Habbits (Stay High)'.

I imagine on the next tour cycle we'll be seeing Tove Lo filling theatres or arenas in Australia, so for those of us lucky enough to see her in such an intimate setting, we have experienced a new generation of electro-pop in its youth.
