The Naked And Famous
/Artist: The Naked And Famous
Date / Venue: Tuesday January 10th, 2017 - Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland
Wow! NZ’s finest tunes continue for the summer! On Tuesday night The Naked and Famous wowed the crowd at Auckland’s Logan Campbell Theatre, coming home to a very enthused crowd, the band brought all their hits along!
The night saw the very talented two opening acts, So Below and Bespin come to the stage and get the room ready and hyped for the band, each playing a 20 minute set each, it was the perfect was the begin the night.
I had never heard of So Below before last night, and I’m safely saying that the band now has a new supporter. I was completely shocked at the 3 man bands subtle tempo and hard hitting drops that blew me away, not to mention the voice on kiwi born dark horse Madeline North! North began formulating her sound a few years back and has worked with fellow kiwi artists Aaron Short, Sam McCarthy and Leroy Clampitt to work on the production of her self-titled EP. North has gained over 230,000 plays on soundcloud and has the support of alternative radio’s here in NZ and is definitely an artist to watch this year!
The night was fairly intimate, but to be fair it was the perfect venue for the band to show off their well-known charisma and vocal ranges. Band members Alisa Xayalith – vocals and keyboard, Thom Powers – vocals and guitars, Aaron Short – keyboards, David Beadle – bass, and Jesse Wood – drums, brought the entire room to simplistic awe, with hits such as 'Runners' 'Girls like You' and all the all time faves 'Higher' and 'Young Blood'.
The acoustic sound spread incredibly well throughout the venue, which made the night even that much more enjoyable for the people that attended. Diverse people at that, from the dad bringing his son to the show for some quality time, to the cute couple in the back enjoying their favourite band together. Old, young they were all there, it was actually pretty cool to see such a wide range of diversity at an Auckland show! NZ music has definitely got a strong following!
TNAF, since 2012 have been living and recording music is Los Angeles, and have made quite the name for themselves, playing at a few gigs here and there and even recording their latest album 'Simple Forms' at studio, Music Friends, under the label SomeWhat Damaged.
Their brief NZ visit, was by far a great way to continue the summer vibes!
