Albi & The Wolves
Albi & The Wolves are a New Zealand based trio that create a huge sound using only an acoustic guitar, an electric violin, a double bass, and their three voices. Chris Dent, Pascal Roggen, and Micheal Young’s individuality shines through the music to make something compelling, uplifting, soulful and fun. Recent achievements include winning the Best Folk Artist 2018 at the New Zealand Music Awards, and supporting Miho Wada's Jazz Orchestra at Aucklands' The Tuning Fork.
Arthur Ahbez
Best described as a soul lost in the spirit of song, Arthur Ahbez rallies in the ethos of Jazz, Folk, and Psychedelic music of the 1960's. He has self written, produced and recorded his two albums by use of analog tape, and pressed both albums to Vinyl. He has secured the support slot for the upcoming Brian Jonestown Massacre show at The Powerstation and has opened for other major artists such as Brant Bjork, The War on Drugs, The Handsome Family and The Growlers.
Holly Arrowsmith
Born in the desert town of Santa Fe, New Mexico and raised in the Southern mountain ranges of Otago, Holly Arrowsmith is a singer-songwriter on the rise locally and internationally for her honest, raw take on observational lyricism and folk revivalist musical style. With sound comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Gillian Welch, Tiny Ruins and Nick Drake, Holly's music touches upon earnest matters of life, wrapped up in lucid reverie of the natural world. Her debut album 'For The Weary Traveller' won her a New Zealand Music Award in 2016 for Best Folk Album. Now two years on, Arrowsmith (24 years of age) has released her long-awaited second album 'A Dawn I Remember' - recorded between the Coastal Southern town of Colac Bay and 'The Sitting Room' Studio with renownd producer Ben Edwards. Holly is a Silver scroll Award top 20, nominee for 2018 with her track 'Slow Train Creek' and a finalist in the Vanda & Young Songwriting Comp 2018. She won a Tui award for 'Best Folk Album' in 2016 and has supported artists such as Sixto Rodriguez, Jessica Pratt, Nadia Reid and Tiny Ruins, toured with Fly My Pretties and has toured USA extensively.
Jaggers X Lines
Scratched-up, sideways pop with tender lyrics and turntablist sensibilities; Jaggers x Lines (Eliana Gray and Morgan Smillie) just want to make you dance. Their bass-heavy, sample-happy beats have consistently charted on NZ alternative radio, been featured on RNZ and supported acts such as : Estere, Boycrush and Tash Sultana. 2018 will see the release of debut album ‘Burn Cycle’ (via Athletic Nun Records), the follow up to last year’s well received EP ‘Letters’, another national tour and the duo's first Australian Tour.
Jed Parsons
Jed Parsons’ unique concoction of indie pop is a culmination of his rich and varied background as a touring musician, which has taken him around the world and into the studio with the likes of nomad, Pacific Heights and Mel Parsons. This year, Parsons has played with his own band at Auckland City Limits, Nostalgia Festival, and headline shows of their own around New Zealand. He released his debut album 'Midnight Feast' in July. His music balances eccentricity and energy with intimacy and musical sensitivity, maintaining a focus on catchy hooks and lyrical prowess.
Nakita
Nakita released her debut EP ‘Foolish Ones’, with a following EP, 'VISION'; a boon of female-fronted electro-pop. Both involved help from talented collaborators, including Matthew Young, Jaden Parks (LEISURE), Avalanche City, Ruby Frost, Benny Tipene and producer Leroy Clampitt. HillyDilly called her “one of the best new artists from the region” and RNZ dubbed her the next 'big thing'. MTV, ABC's 'Rage' and other tastemakers also shared their praise. Nakita has gone onto open for 'LANY' and 'EDEN' at Auckland's 'Powerstation'. Going forward, Nakita works towards her next release and hopes to jump forward doing shows around NZ and Internationally.
nomad
nomad’s signature lush vocal layers, heady harmonies and infectious, indie-pop hooks have been winning over unsuspecting live audiences and on April 6 they released their debut studio album, ‘Can You Feel It?’. Recorded as 19-year-olds, Producer Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Pop Strangers) describes it as a “process of discovery”. With over 4 million streams across Spotify and a nomination for NZMA Best Newcomer, nomad has Supported Marlon Williams, Dave Dobbyn, Hanson & The Vamps.
ONONO
ONONO started as a home recording project for Jonathan Nott and has since transformed into a 5-piece psych-pop supergroup of Wellington musicians. Releases include debut EP 'Bad Posture' in late 2016 and latest EP 'STAND' April 2018. STAND was been released on limited addition vinyl in collaboration with Ball of Wax and Coffee Supreme Press.
SHAYNA
An established full-time touring & playing musician in Christchurch, SHAYNA has spent the past two years focused on writing and developing her songs & crafting her sound. The result is new single 'MILES AWAY', a breakout electro-pop track with strong melodies, glittery pop production and hints of r&b, held together by vocals often described as a stunning mix between soft and powerful. Released on 13th April, 'MILES AWAY' featured on Apple Music’s Best of the Week & Spotify’s New Music Friday, and debuted at #10 in the Spotify NZ viral tracks & #2 on the Official NZTop40 Heatseekers Singles Chart.
Soaked Oats
Soaked Oats are a young four--piece band hailing from Dunedin, New Zealand. They write songs with thoughtful lyricism and guitar-driven pop sounds. The band has been making waves across their homeland with feature articles across local media and building a reputation of being one of the hardest working bands in Aotearoa. Highlights since forming in 2017 include supporting Australian surf rockers Hockey Dad across New Zealand in April 2018, a huge new years eve set at Rhythm and Vines, and sold out shows across New Zealand. Keep your eyes peeled for you’ll be seeing a lot more of this band in the coming months, as they look to build momentum heading into summer and beyond.
The Beth
The Beths has been around for a few years, the writing project of Elizabeth Stokes, and featuring Jonathan Pearce (Artisan Guns, Aldous Harding), Ivan Luketina-Johnston (Sal Valentine) and Benjamin Sinclair (The Protection). The Beths released the 'Warm Blood' EP in 2016, and its lead single 'Whatever' blew up over university radio, and then the NZOA funded video blew up on Reddit, causing a spike in plays on Spotify and Youtube. Since then the Beths have been on the radar of a global audience. At the start of 2018, Carpark Records (Beach House, Toro y Moi, Cloud Nothings) got ahold of the unreleased album 'Future Me Hates Me' and they will be releasing it on August 10th. Their track 'Future Me Hates Me' is Silver scroll Award top 20, nominee for 2018.
Unchained XL
Unchained XL is a Nigerian Kiwi Hiphop artist and producer with a unique, afrocentric sound that is easily recognizable as his own. His 2018 debut EP release entitled ‘Foreign Legacy’ blends traditional afrobeat-inspired textures and rhythms with various styles of hiphop, utilising a combination of live instruments and synths. April saw UXL’s reach expand globally, as he completed a tour of the UK with shows in London, Bristol, Sheffield, Leeds and Cardiff, performing alongside artists such as Mungos HiFi, Afro Cluster and Mr Phormula.
