The Great New Zealand Folk Revival Tour announced

The Frank Burkitt Band, Albi & The Wolves and The Slacks & Ben Wilson have been announced for The Great New Zealand Folk Revival - heading to Auckland, Taranaki and Wellington this July. 

Albi & The Wolves are the most recent recipients of the 2018 Tui for Best Folk Artist for their stunning debut album One Eye Open, which captures the Auckland trio's captivating blend of folk with modern sensibilities of neighbouring genres and styles. From Wellington via Scotland, The Frank Burkitt Band are no strangers to tour van life, having recently played Port Fairy Folk Festival in Australia off the back of their new album Raconteur. Taranaki's own the Slacks will be joined by fellow Taranaki musician Ben Dixon, spreading their hearty, good vibes and highly singable tunes to audiences both young and young at heart - with a bit of Kiwiana for good measure.

The collective character of these three groups has helped shape a community and a hearty camaraderie around the music. They love playing music, but most importantly they love playing it together.

Frank Burkitt Band

Formed in early 2014, the Frank Burkitt Band play original music inspired by jazz, blues, folk, swing, soul and all things American Roots. A string band that have become popular throughout New Zealand and Australia thanks to their entertaining performances, strong musicianship and fantastic song-writing. They’ll make you dance, laugh, listen and cry (in a good way).

Albi & The Wolves

This is folk music, but not as you know it. Pulling inspiration from a wide spectrum of genres, from swing to bluegrass, soul, r&b, rock and world music, Albi & The Wolves offer a decadent serving of double bass, guitar, and violin accompanied by Albi's smooth vocal style. These elements come together to create both a potent foot stomping rhythm and a captivating music and stage presence never experienced before. Since the band's formation in 2014, they have excelled in New Zealand's live music scene, pulling in large crowds with their unique performance styles that can captivate and be irresistible to dance to.

The Slacks & Ben Dixon

Originally founded by songwriter brothers Scott and Mark Armstrong, theSlacks already have an impressive back catalogue with plans for their third full-length studio album well underway. theSlacks struck hokey-pokey gold last year with their bi-lingual single 'Big Aroha' which, thanks in part to a video shot in a local 4-Square store and went viral online, proved to be a hit with schools, Kapa Haka groups and ex-pat Kiwis all over the world.
