Drax Project announce Auckland show

Hot on the heels of their opening slots for Ed Sheeran, Drax Project has announced a one-off show at the Powerstation in Auckland on Friday, May 11.

The four-piece have been making waves with their unique blend of pop, R&B and hip-hop, with their smash hit single ‘Woke Up Late’ topping charts and amassing more than 5.6 million streams on Spotify. The song has spent weeks on Top 40 radio in New Zealand, reaching #1 in the radio pop charts and #2 all airplay - an amazing feat for a local act. The single has also been certified Platinum.

Drax Project got their start as a late night drums and sax busking duo, comprising of Jazz school students Shaan Singh and Matt Beachen. They became renowned for their impromptu busking sessions on Courtney Place in Wellington, with massive crowds of people dancing in the street. The duo then expanded to include fellow music students Sam Thomson on bass and Ben O’Leary on guitar. As the band grew, so too did Drax Project’s reputation as one of New Zealand’s favourite live acts, regularly selling out shows around the country.

Signed to Universal Music Group for New Zealand and Australia, they released their debut EP T/W/OO in April 2016. The lads then went from strength-to-strength, dropping the buzz singles ‘So Lost’ and ‘Falling Out Of Sight’ in 2016, followed by a LIVE COVERS EP in 2017, then the breakthrough hit ‘Woke Up Late’ at the end of 2017. Last week marked their first release on US label 300, ‘Light’ - a collab with top 40 rapper Famous Dex.

Now, just weeks after performing to more than 120,000 people across three Ed Sheeranconcerts at Mt Smart in Auckland, Drax Project are in more demand than ever. Their live show has stood them out as consummate performers and their one-off gig at the Powerstation on May 11 is one night you do not want to miss.
