Estère bringing her Electric Blue Witch Hop to Waiheke Island

Internationally celebrated musician Estère performs at Ostend War Memorial Hall on Saturday 8th December, her one show on Waiheke Island.

Bringing her unique blend of melody, rhythm, samples and loops, Estère will arrive on the island fresh from her second European festival tour, this year. Estère's rich elastic voice and punchy melodies ride atop thick bass and weighty drums, textured with organic acoustic samples and electronic pulses. She calls her music Electric Blue Witch Hop, defying genre, seamlessly blending together soul and indie, hip hop and jazz, her musical layers shuffling between pop sensibility and African beats. Estère was fittingly called on to open for Grace Jones, John Cale and Erykah Badu, holding her own and impressing audiences at every turn.

Estère has performed at festivals across the globe, a sampling of which are Glastonbury (UK), Bushfire Festival (Manzini, Swaziland), Botanique (Brussels), Sori International Music Festival (Jeonju South Korea), Aarhus International Festival (Denmark); and closer to home, WOMAD, Rhythm & Vines, Rhythm & Alps and more. She has also headlined international shows in and amongst the festivals, as well as collaborating with an impressive assortment of artists (Jon Toogood, Oddissee (Washington, DC), Raiza Biza) and requests for live performance vocal cameos (Bic Runga).

Accompanying Estère on stage will be her supercool all-female band; she will be supported by local legend Nikki Ngatai, who may or may not be wielding her roller skates, but will most definitely be impressing punters with her gorgeous vocals, guitar and loops.
