The Breeders announce Auckland show
/Legendary alt-pop four-piece The Breeders, are set to play a one-night-only show at The Powerstation in Auckland on December 11th.
Initially formed as a side project by Kim Deal of the Pixies and Tanya Donnelly (Throwing Muses, Belly), the Breeders went on to become one of the era-defining indie acts of the nineties.
Best known for their album Last Splash, recorded in 1993 by Deal, her twin sister Kelley, Jim Macpherson and Josephine Wiggs and released on 4AD, The Breeders were propelled by the success of their instantly-recognisable hit track ‘Cannonball’, which was accompanied by the iconic MTV video directed by Kim Gordon and Spike Jonze.
A year on the road saw them land a coveted support slot on Nirvana’s In Utero tour, an epic and still unforgettable appearance at Lollapalooza ‘94, closely followed by their album going platinum, with the Melody Maker naming them “...probably the most casually brilliant band around”.
Almost 25 years on, the band returned with a brand new album All Nerve in early 2018, reuniting all four members from the Last Splash era, and serving up more of the beloved signature sound that launched them into the collective-consciousness of the 90’s grunge-pop scene and keeps them as one of the most enduringly-beloved indie bands to this day.
