Electronic Dance Music meets the Auckland Symphony Orchestra

Preparations are well under way for what promises to be one of the most memorable events in Auckland’s entertainment calendar this year: ‘Synthony - A Generation of Dance Music’.

Presented by George FM, Synthony will bring together a selection of New Zealand’s hottest DJs and the Auckland Symphony Orchestra, for a one-off show at the Auckland Town Hall on September 30.

Billed as a ‘celebration of electronic dance music’, the 90-piece orchestra will play the biggest dance music tracks of the last 30 years, mixed and hosted by George FM DJ, General Lee, with live performances from Helen Corry, Laughton Kora and Natalia Sheppard AKA Tali.

Kiwi DJ legends Greg Churchill and Bevan Keys will take to the stage when the ASO finishes, as the party kicks on.

With lights, lasers, mapped video and state of the art sound all part of the Synthonyexperience, planning for the one-night extravaganza is a big job, which will be carried out by a skillful behind-the-scenes crew led by the show’s Orchestrator - the highly respected Ryan Yoens, whose credits include work on Lord of the Rings. The ASO’s legendary Music Director and Conductor, Peter Thomas, will then have the mammoth task of turning the orchestra’s talents to dance music and working alongside some of New Zealand’s most respected electronic artists.

First announced in late June, the response to Synthony has been phenomenal, with tickets in hot demand.
