Fans invited to celebrate 5 Seconds Of Summer in Auckland

5 Seconds of Summer is arguably one of the hottest bands in the world right now. So it’s understandable Kiwi fans are crestfallen that the Australian rockers are unable to make it to NZ on their live tour later this year.

But Auckland teenager and self-confessed 5SOS “super fan” Savannah Murphy is not going to let the disappointment stop her from celebrating all that the band means to her and thousands of other Kiwi fans. The 16-year-old has organised a 5SOS FAM PARTY, which will be held on Saturday, June 18 at Musicworks in Auckland, from 3pm-6pm.

Savannah came up for the idea for the fan event through her involvement in the groundbreaking youth initiative IGNITE.

She’s one of 10 participants, aged 15-18, who have taken part in the 15-week long IGNITE programme, aimed at giving young people hands-on experience in the music business. The participants have received mentoring from high profile professionals and have designed and run a number of successful music-based events and concerts throughout the duration of the programme.

"I've chosen to run 5SOS FAM PARTY because I believe fan culture is a really important thing,” says Savannah.

“A lot of us struggle with fitting in, whether that be at school or at home, but we have friends within each other. They are more than just a band, and we are more than just fans, we are a family. I wanted to have a day where we can come together and celebrate that."

“5 Seconds of Summer has brought us together - they've given a lot of people hope and inspiration and a place to belong. I believe it's so important to acknowledge and celebrate that."

5SOS FAM PARTY will be held on Saturday 18th June, marking exactly one year since the band played in Auckland. It is a free event, open to all ages. There will be live music, karaoke, snacks and prizes to be won. .
