Kiwi singer and songwriter Tom Cunliffe has just released a video for the song ‘I’ve Been Bitten By An Old White Man’ from his recently-released album, Template For Love.

The Auckland-based artist explains the song was inspired by Donald Trump.

“It stemmed from seeing a picture of Trump’s administration legislating on women’s healthcare, in a room filled entirely with old white men. I found the irony amusing, that I too would be an old white man one day. Here I was writing a song questioning the legacy of a group I would eventually, inevitably, belong to. Cue zombie satire, obviously.”

Not one to rest on his laurels, Cunliffe then turned his talents to animation, making the video for ‘I’ve Been Bitten By An Old White Man’ himself.

“I wanted something that would help people digest the constant deluge of weird imagery in the song. I fancied giving cell animation a go, so I spent three weeks locked in my room drawing hundreds of pictures, charging through Zeta pads and Artline pens, as well as watching all four seasons of ‘Bojack Horseman’ on Netflix.”

‘I’ve Been Bitten By An Old White Man’ is the latest single from Cunliffe’s album Template For Love. It was produced by Dave Khan and Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Delaney Davidson, Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding) at his legendary Lyttleton studio.
