Sons Of Zion announce release of new album 'Vantage Point'
/Sons of Zion have well and truly earned their place in the upper echelons of New Zealand music and the band have announced the release of their highly anticipated new album, Vantage Point, on May 11.
‘Drift Away,’ the fresh new single, is already making waves at radio and on the charts. Currently #4 on Shazam, #30 on iTunes and #43 on Spotify the track is the band’s fast growing single to date.
From their humble Kiwi beginnings, to playing shows across the globe and dominating charts, Sons of Zion have amassed an impressive 20 million streams on Spotify, more than 10 million views on YouTube and 100,000-plus followers on social media.
It’s a track record that has established Sons of Zion as one the southern hemisphere’s most-loved and well-respected bands.
They made their mark in 2009 with their self-titled debut album, following it up in 2013 with their full-length studio album Universal Love, which included the smash singles ’Be My Lady’, ‘Good Love’ and ‘Tell Her’ - the latter two songs achieving #1 urban and #1 NZ airplay respectively.
Rio, Sam, Joel, Matt, Ross, and Caleb have continued to push boundaries with their sound, evolving from their early days as a reggae act to the six-piece that exists today. A band not confined by genre but simply motivated to making music that speaks to the heart and soul.
Vantage Point follows the band’s 2017’s EP, The Jukebox Suite, which peaked at #2 on the iTunes Album Chart and #9 in the NZ album chart. The EP’s lead single ‘Is That Enough’ feat. Aaradhna immediately shot to #3 on both iTunes and the NZ Viral Spotify Chart and climbed to #1 on the Urban Airplay chart, #2 NZ Airplay and #2 on the Top 20 NZ Singles Chart.
For Sons of Zion, who write, record, engineer and produce all of their own music, The Jukebox Suite acted as a symbolic line in the sand as they prepared their first full length release since 2013, with new material that yet again moves them into new sonic territories.
Sons of Zion’s hard work and commitment to taking their music to their fans has established them as one of the best live acts on the touring circuit. The band have toured New Zealand more times than they can count, performed at some of the biggest festivals around including Homegrown, One Love and Ragamuffin and have also played sold out shows across Australia, Tahiti, Japan, Rarotonga, Samoa, the US and Hawaii where their track ‘Stuck on Stupid’ took the honour of being Island 98.5’s second biggest song of 2015.
Their accolades include NZ On Air Best Music Video Award for Superman and nominations for ‘Best Māori Urban Roots Album’, ‘Best Song By A Maori Artist’ and ‘Best Song Writer’ at the Waiata Maori Music Awards.
