Dan Sultan shares music video for 'My Kingdom (feat. A.B. Original)'
/
Dan Sultan has released of the video for ‘My Kingdom (Feat. A.B. Original)’. The powerful rework saw Briggs and Trials penning new verses for the track, sharing personal stories from their upbringing to add to the original song’s already poignant sentiment.
“I’ve been along for the ride a couple of times with those guys, so I thought it would be good to have them along for the ride with me,” Sultan says. “What they did with it is beautiful. It’s a pretty sad song, but it’s beautiful.”
“The first time I heard ‘Kingdom’ the piano immediately jumped out at me. For our version those chords are the only thing that remains from the original besides Dan’s vocals as I felt that was the body of such a soulful song. Lyrically B and I wanted to paint a picture of our versions of the Kingdoms we grew up in and show the underlying differences and similarities that make us all family.” – Trials, A.B Original
The song features on Dan Sultan’s new collaborative EP Killer Under A Blood Moon. The special 6-track EP features tracks from Sultan’s ARIA-Award nominated album Killer, reinterpreted by Dan and some of the brightest and most important names in Australian music right now – A.B. Original, Camp Cope, Gang of Youths’ Dave Le’aupepe and Meg Mac.
Recorded live at Red Moon Studios with close friend and producer Jan Skubiszewski, the EP is a testament to the respect Sultan holds for his peers, and adds to his already glowing catalogue of music. Leading up to its release, Sultan has shared a new song weekly with fans, including ‘Drover (Feat. Dave Le’aupepe)’, ‘Reaction (Feat. Meg Mac)’ and ‘Killer (Feat. Camp Cope)’. Each release has been accompanied by a live video from the studio.
The EP rounds off with two unheard glam-bent bonus tracks, ‘Pitchfork’ and ‘Coming Back’, which were written around the time the songs from Killer came to be.
Killer debuted at #5 on the ARIA Albums Chart and received three nominations at last year’s ARIA Awards. It featured on numerous Best Albums of 2017 lists, with lead single ‘Hold It Together’ nominated for APRA’s Song of the Year. It has also garnered Sultan a nomination for Best Independent Blues and Roots Album at this year’s AIR Awards.
Sultan is currently in the midst of an extensive solo tour for Killer, which sees him stripping things back to basics - just himself, his piano and guitar - for an incredible 44 date theatre run nationwide. Limited tickets remain for select shows.
