Dan Sultan announces collaborative EP 'Killer Under A Blood Moon'
/Dan Sultan has announced the release of his forthcoming collaborative EP, Killer Under A Blood Moon, set to land on May 18. This special release features four selected tracks from Sultan’s ARIA-Award nominated LP Killer, reinterpreted by Dan and some of the brightest and most important names in Australian music: A.B. Original, Camp Cope, Meg Mac and Gang Of Youths front man Dave Le’aupepe.
Dan Sultan, his band, and Dave reworked this album highlight live from the sweeping hills of the Macedon Ranges. A film crew captured the process, creating an iconic live video to accompany its digital release.
Dan Sultan explains that the concept behind Killer Under a Blood Moon was to give these songs new bodies, new ways of being, and to have a good time doing it. “We were really just hanging out and having a bit of fun together. I’m really proud of Killer and of the writing on the album, and this is another way to show these songs from a different perspective.”
A new song will be revealed weekly in the lead up to the EP release. Still to come is Dan Sultan and A.B Original’s rework of ‘My Kingdom’, where perspectives are flipped and the story incredibly re-told, plus there’s a shimmering slice of dance-floor pop with Meg Mac on ‘Reaction’, whilst Camp Cope make title track, ‘Killer’, more powerful than ever with their illustrious punk aura.
Killer Under A Blood Moon was performed and recorded live at Red Moon Studios with producer Jan Skubiszweski. Its creation is a testament to the respect Sultan garners in his peers. It also speaks to a growing camaraderie amongst those musicians unafraid to forge new cultural ground and to challenge the status quo, onstage and off. The 6-track EP rounds off with two unheard glam-bent bonus tracks, ‘Pitchfork’ and ‘Coming Back’.
Dan Sultan released Killer in July last year and has been riding the wave of its success since. Killer debuted at #5 on the ARIA Albums Chart and received three nominations at last year’s ARIA Awards. Killer was featured in numerous Best Albums of 2017 lists and the single ‘Hold It Together’ was nominated for APRA Song of the Year. It also led Dan Sultan to sign an international deal with progressive US label, AntiFragile. Earlier this week, Dan Sultan was announced as a nominee for Best Independent Blues and Roots Album at the 2018 AIR Awards, which will take place on July 26.
Liberation Records would like to thank everyone involved in the creation of Killer Under A Blood Moon; a special project that will stand as a shining moment in Australian music.
