Boycrush shares new video 'Demi-pointes'

Boycrush has revealed a new track off Desperate Late Night Energy, his forthcoming album due out June 15.

While writing and producing the album material on DLNE, Alistair referenced a number of dance-related terms to use as placeholder names for the tracks. 'Demi pointes' refers to the type of shoe ballet dancers wear in order to transition gradually to a pointe shoe before learning to dance ‘en pointe’ and conjures metaphors of a liminal state of change.

Voiced by Jessie Cassin and featuring Boycrush’s cathartic beatwork, the dreamy future-pop track was written about ideas of unwanted attention and loneliness. The vocals were pitched up from their original key in order to give them the slightly disembodied feeling, reminiscent of producer SOPHIE's 'Bipp'.

Today Alistair shares visuals for Demi pointes; the first in a video trilogy featuring three dancers from the New Zealand Dance Company - Chrissy Kokiri, Carl Tolentino and Xin Ji.

Directed by Rowan Pierce, the video aesthetic nods at New Zealand photographer Yvonne Todd in a dance choreographed by Malia Johnston, see Holy Water (feat. Chelsea Jade) which recently hit #1 on the NZ Alternative Airplay chart.

Boycrush is the creative project of producer, drummer and songwriter, Alistair Deverick. He is accompanied live by vocalists Carla Camilleri and Tom Young from Auckland music collective, Leisure.

The first Boycrush EP Everybody All The Time came together during his stint in Madrid at the Red Bull Music Academy 2011, and produced possibly one of the most iconic synth-pop tracks of the year ('Secrets' with Watercolours). A year later, Deverick followed up with his striking second EP Girls On Top, which saw love from The Guardian and wide appreciation from blogs around the world for it's leading track 'Flirt' (featuring Yumi Zouma & Madeira).

Outside of his own work, Deverick performs with Lawrence Arabia, Jonathan Bree, Carnivorous Plant Society and The Ruby Suns.
