Award-winning singer and songwriter Thomas Oliver has released his new single ‘Learn That Lesson Again’.

‘Learn That Lesson Again’ is the second single from Oliver’s upcoming new album and is a funk-filled tune, with soul and pop sensibilities, which delves into the relatable desire to keep returning to an old romantic or sexual relationship even when you know it’s not good for you - hence the illustrated devil and angel on Oliver’s shoulders in the artwork.

“As humans, we learn lessons constantly,” says Oliver. “However, some of those we seem to need to learn again and again. Especially when it comes to lovers! I believe that almost everyone can relate to this.”

The Silver Scroll Award winner from New Zealand co-wrote and co-produced ‘Learn That Lesson Again’ in Nashville with acclaimed writer, producer, engineer and multi-instrumentalist, Tony Esterly, who has worked on projects involving an A-list of artists including Sia, Kimbra and Aloe Blacc.

During his first session with Esterly, Oliver says that they quickly realised they shared a common love for neo-soul music. It was their first point of artistic connection and from there they built a rough-sounding hip hop beat and grabbed the nearest electric guitar.

“The process was fluid and natural and in just two days we had a tune that we were stoked with,” says Oliver.

The idea for the song’s video was born out of a conversation Oliver had with one of his managers, Oli Krämer at Tenfold Management, which is also the home to Kiwi sensation Mitch James. “We were brainstorming ideas and he said, ‘Why don’t you just fly to Amsterdam for the weekend and meet Mitch [James] and Mitch [Lowe], who is my other manager who was there for the Amsterdam Dance Event. Have a few big nights at the ADE, take your phone and film everything. That’s exactly what I did.”

And so, the video candidly captures Oliver’s wild abandon in Europe’s party capital.

“I’m really enjoying connecting my fans with an unapologetically true version of myself, and what better way to do that than to film a music video on my phone while I live my life! And to be able to share it with my good mates, Mitch and Mitch – perfect!”

Oliver won the prestigious Silver Scroll Award in 2016 for his hit song ‘If I Move To Mars’ from his album FLOATING IN THE DARKNESS, which debuted at #6 on the NZ Album Charts.

With millions of views and streams across different platforms, Oliver has developed an international audience from his home in NZ. He has performed throughout NZ, Australia, Europe and Vietnam and has shared the stage with legends such as Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton and Fat Freddy’s Drop.
