Push Push to release EP ahead of reunion tour

Gen X favourites Push Push are getting ready to go Trippin’ around the country with OTT English rockers The Darkness later this month, and they’re celebrating their reunion by releasing four-track EP Talk2Me next Thursday 13 April.

“Throughout my on-air career at various radio stations, I was called almost daily asking when Push Push would reunite,” says frontman Mikey Havoc.

“It’s taken a couple of decades, but we’re finally ready to get back on the road together, and thought it’d be a good time to share these four songs with our fans, who have been amazingly loyal.

“What a perfect opportunity to enjoy the thrilling memories of a golden age of New Zealand music whilst simultaneously hearing what Push Push sounds like nice and loud in 2017!"

"After 20 odd years it was just so damned good to be with my brothers again," adds lead guitarist Andy Kane.

"We just picked up where we left off, sans the animosity. The old songs are so special to us and the new recording of Talk2Me is just face meltingly good.”

Since disbanding in 1993, four of the five band members have shed their trademark manes, but at the recent video shoot for the EP’s title track showed that the trademark Push Push energy and stage presence is by no means diminished. The single and video for ‘Talk2Me’ will be released alongside the EP on 13 April.

Push Push’s biggest hit ‘Trippin’’ hit #1 on the Kiwi charts on 14 April 1991, pushing The Righteous Brothers’ ‘Unchained Melody’ off the top spot. The song was the only Kiwi song to make #1 on the New Zealand charts that year. ‘Trippin’’ stayed in the charts for 25 weeks and also spent 10 weeks on the Australian charts, peaking at #25. The next two singles - ‘Song 27’ and ‘What My Baby Likes’ also hit the NZ top 10.

1992 saw the band release the album A Trillion Shades of Happy, which was certified gold. That year saw them awarded Best Group and Video of the Year (‘Trippin’’) at the New Zealand Music Awards and open for AC/DC at Mt Smart Stadium, ahead of their break-up in 1993.

Get set for the return of one of the biggest and best Kiwi bands of the 90s with Talk2Me available for download and via streaming services from 13 April, and concert dates with The Darkness from 20 April.
