HIVE Park announce debut album launch in St Kilda

Melbourne’s HIVE Park will launch their debut album “things we should have said…”, produced by multi-platinum winning sound engineer Jimi Maroudas (The Living End, Eskimo Joe), at 2pm on Sunday June 4 at Memo Music Hall, St Kilda… tickets are on sale now and everyone who comes will receive a free CD!

Showcasing their lyrical purity and sensitive instrumental arrangements, “things we should have said…” pushes musical boundaries with its blend of rock riffs, pared-back folk and lush violin.

Comparisons never quite hit the mark, but vocalist Cassie Serpell’s mellifluous tones instantly evoke Everything But The Girl’s Tracey Thorn.

Serpell said, “I’m really happy to finally be able to share these songs with everyone. They’ve come from my personal experiences, which I expect are universal.”

To the foundation of her delicate acoustic, Serpell’s intimate vocal applies the narrative, leaving the wringing of emotions in the hands of Jeremy Blackman, whose soaring violin leaves no heartstrings un-plucked.  Fabrizio Giorgio brings ballast with sensitive rhythms, while the funky bass and twanging Stratocaster of Ilias Tsinanis offer reassurance that everything will be ok.

Maroudas remembers something special happening between Serpell’s writing and Blackman’s violin melodies and said, “They ran through six songs and I was blown away by the intimacy and depth of the material. It is not common to have two strong and complementary voices in a band, but here I found two artists that had a genuine musical empathy”.

The album opener Crime & Justice smacks of sixties spy thriller, while Real Words has the percussive, blues-rock sound of an early Sheryl Crow.  The plunkety-plunk bluegrass of Our Song conjures up elements of The Audreys, and the album’s first single Save Me takes Everything But The Girl into Shakira territory.
