Teeth & Tongue release reworked version of 'Cupcake'

Melbourne's Teeth & Tongue otherwise known the musical project of Jess Cornelius have shared an album preview in the form of a reworked version of their 2015 single 'Cupcake'. Shared via the bands social media this afternoon 'Cupcake Revisited' provides a preview and signifies a change in musical direction for the next Teeth & Tongue record which will be released in September 2016.
Of her reasons to rework 'Cupcake' to fit with the aesthetic of the new record Cornelius says "We wanted to put ‘Cupcake’ on the new record because it hadn’t been released as part of an album before – we’d just recorded and released it as a standalone single. But it became clear pretty quickly that it wasn’t going to fit stylistically on the new album, even if we re-mixed it. Damian (bassist) suggested we do a new version of it, along the same vein that we’d been arranging the new tracks. We tried a bunch of things but nothing quite worked. It just had too much of a 2/4 rhythm and we couldn’t get rid of that county-sounding vibe, so we kind of decided to just leave it off the record. Then, in the middle of our 9-day recording session for the album, I woke up in the middle of the night with a drum and arpeggio pattern in my head. I wrote ‘No snare!!’ on a piece of paper and went back to sleep. That morning when everyone arrived at the studio we started playing it and after a few hours we recorded it. It was totally unexpected."
