After releasing a string of powerful singles, Aotearoa soul/R&B sensation La Coco has today revealed her stunning sophomore EP, ECHOES & EMBERS.
Steeped in mid-tempo R&B-meets neo soul, ECHOES & EMBERS is layered with vivid imagery, allowing the listener to see and feel the story unfold. It also platforms one of the country’s most powerful voices and showcases a songwriter and storyteller of wisdom and depth.
“ECHOES & EMBERS captures a time shared between two people who felt deeply for each other - at least that’s how it was for me. Everything’s told from my perspective. It’s about remembering a moment in time for its beauty, and learning to let go with love,” says the Wellington-based La Coco.
The six-track EP - produced by YOGIC BEATS, with sound engineer Troy Kelly - includes the already released singles ‘Linger’, ‘Rhythms’ and the new single ‘Moving Shadows’ - an introspective, slow-to-midtempo offering that captures the solitary beauty of late night drives and golden hour reflection.
Sitting comfortably in cruise control, ‘Moving Shadows’ is unhurried, atmospheric and deeply visual.
“This song came from watching someone I care about navigate a relationship in their own way. I wanted to capture how he processes things – not through my eyes, but through his, in the spaces where he's most himself. So I built it around two places where he would spend most of his time and find his peace - the open road and the waterside,” explains Coco.
“These are his sanctuaries – where he goes to think, reflect, clear his mind, and work through whatever's weighing on him. Understanding that about him was key to understanding the relationship and I wrote to a picture I had in my mind of him in these moments.”
