Grammy Award-winning artist Flying Lotus (Steve Ellison) returns to Aotearoa this early winter with his signature fusion of hip-hop, jazz, electronic beats, and experimental sound. About Flying Lotus -
Los Angeles-born producer, DJ and filmmaker Flying Lotus is celebrated for his groundbreaking fusion of hip-hop, electronic music, and jazz-influenced experimentation. He comes from a notable musical lineage: his great-aunt was jazz legend Alice Coltrane, whose spiritual and experimental approach has deeply influenced his work.
Since emerging in the late 2000s, he has released acclaimed albums including Los Angeles (2008), Cosmogramma (2010), and Flamagra (2019). Known for complex rhythms, layered production, and psychedelic soundscapes, he has collaborated with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Thom Yorke, and Herbie Hancock.
Founder of the Brainfeeder label, he has nurtured a generation of experimental musicians. Beyond music, Ellison made his feature directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller Ash (2025), further establishing him as one of contemporary electronic music’s most inventive figures.
