Fresh from touring Asia, Aotearoa’s favourite indie-pop duo Foley are turning up the heat with their new road trip banger, ‘Honey’.

‘Honey’’ is a surefire singalong, fuelled by a feelgood energy that’s distinctly Foley.

The now Sydney based duo wrote ‘Honey’ with new friends Max Jacobs and Nico Scali from the Australian alternative-pop trio Loretta, with Max and Nico (Loretta, Hp Boyz, RAGEFLOWER) also lending their talents to production on the track.

“We all clicked straight away and had so many laughs, it made for an energetic session. We left in the real studio noise of us chatting and laughing too, so you can really hear the energy!”

“Those magic guitar chords and rhythm that carry the song were brought to the session by Max and having a new guitarist in the room helped us to get into a different headspace,” explains the duo.

“We wanted to write something with the acoustic guitar front and centre that could bring a bit of a bluesy tone. And the chorus really dabbles with that in the guitar and vocal stacks.”

And in true Foley fashion, the song’s relatable lyricism hits hard.

“‘Honey’ is about taking it too far and realising you might have pushed your luck - we all have moments in a relationship where you make your point a little TOO WELL and realise you played too rough. In the right relationship those moments aren't make or break; instead, they are the times you see compassion and understanding in a partner who is willing to have your back and stick with you.”

“The line, ‘Whenever I spill my guts you stitch me up honey’ sums it all up - they're there to put the pieces back together for you because they know your true heart.”

‘Honey’ comes straight off the back of a five-date South Korea tour, where Foley performed to packed crowds in Seoul, Daegu and Busan.

Buzzing from the energy, they shot the visualiser for ‘Honey’ on tour.

“We wanted to capture the busy-ness of the streets and how that can reflect the mental static and gymnastics of pushing your luck. We played this song live for the first time in Korea, so it seemed like a fitting homage, and mostly just wanted to create something energetic and fun, and lean into the relationship between ourselves!”
