Vance Joy steps back into the spotlight with ‘Divine Feelings’ - the first single from double A-side Divine Feelings/Fascination in the Dark, dropping this October. The release marks the first since his last album In Our Own Sweet Time (2022), and recent collaborative singles ‘Everybody Needs Somebody’ with Noah Cyrus (2023) and ‘Wherever You Are’ with Shouse (2025).
‘Divine Feelings’ is about first crossing paths with someone truly monumental, an ode to the head rush of a profound connection. The song arrives alongside a cinematic visual directed by Bill (W.A.M.) Bleakley, filmed in Mt Isa and Cloncurry in regional Queensland. An homage to a modern-day Australian Bonnie and Clyde, the clip follows actors Erana James (We Are Dangerous, The Wilds, The Changeover) and Tom Wilson (Heartbreak High, Latecomers, Ladies In Black) through outback Australia as they outrun and outsmart police, holing up in a shady regional motel. The couple’s chemistry is screen-steaming, as we take a passenger seat in their romantic escapade.
“We shot the videos in Mount Isa and Cloncurry in Western Queensland – not only do they have a desert/ Americana vibe they also offered us consistent weather that had a summer feel to it. Generally, not much filming happens in either of these towns, so we were a bit of a novelty and locals really embraced us. Everything we asked for (locations, vehicles etc) we got a “yes" – whereas in the city you often get a lot of “no’s”.
“Working with A grade actors like Erana James and Tom Wilson made our job easy. They nailed the performances and were happy to improvise where the story needed ironing out.” - W.A.M. Bleakley (Video Director)
Fate works in mysterious ways and we’re never certain of the hand we’ll be dealt. For Australian singer-songwriter, Vance Joy, a fateful moment in 2019 sealed the trajectory of his future. While walking through Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, he crossed paths with a dark-haired girl. Struck with that familiar rush that comes with meeting someone that stands starkly separate from all others, this dark-haired girl would soon reveal herself to be his soulmate.
With awe and clarity, Vance Joy has tapped into that marvelous, joyful and universal experience for his latest pair of songs - Divine Feelings/ Fascination in the Dark. These twin tracks chart the thrill of that first encounter with someone extraordinary, again proving the Melbourne-born musician’s knack for nailing the great tides of being and love that stirs our inner rhythm.
To bring ‘Divine Feelings’ to life, Vance Joy holed up in an Airbnb in the hills of Barcelona, the same city of the chance encounter that changed his life. Alongside longtime collaborator Dave Bassett (who also worked on ‘Lay It On Me’ and ‘Saturday Sun’), the pair devoted themselves to capturing that special feeling in song, and crafting something that felt at once euphoric, epic and emotional.
Currently on his North American tour, lucky attendees at Vance Joy’s live shows were the very first in the world to hear ‘Divine Feelings’. After teasing new music in the week leading up to the shows, an announcement was made by Vance Joy himself in each arena before it spilled from the speakers, enthralling the audience.
With ‘Fascination in the Dark’ - the second cut from the double A-side - due out in October, the two singles mark an anticipated release from one of Australia’s most beloved songwriters. This music was born from a time in his life of both glorious expansion and quiet slowing down, through which he married his dream girl from the Gothic Quarter, moved to Barcelona and welcomed his first child.
With over 10 billion streams, countless global gold, and platinum releases, #1’s, awards and accolades, fans the world over deeply resonate with Vance Joy’s unmistakable, intimate and anthemic songwriting. Amid life’s transitions, milestones and successes, what remains for Vance Joy is a love for chasing down the idea of song, solving the puzzle of the perfect melody and eventually securing the natural high that comes from writing something that feels true.
Vance Joy will continue his North American Tour throughout September before returning to the familiar shores of home to play Harvest Rock in Adelaide on 25 October.
