Celebrated singer and songwriter, and former Midnight Youth frontman, Jeremy Redmore, has today released his debut children’s album, SINGALONGERCISE.

The album takes its name from a world-first kaupapa envisioned and brought to life by Jeremy, with the aim of encouraging wellness through singing and music.

The ‘Singalongercise’ concept is already catching on in homes and schools across the country. Learn more HERE

The album SINGALONGERCISE is a fun and energetic collection of modern pop-leaning tracks, produced for an adult audience, but featuring lyrics and themes for kids. The highly interactive songs are designed to get children moving and singing along.

“The concept of this record was sparked by scientific research, which shows that when kids sing and move in synchrony, they receive notable neurophysiological benefits that also help them feel more connected and accepted by their peers,” explains Jeremy.

In order to make it as easy as possible for parents, carers and educators to create the conditions for this magic to happen, Jeremy first conceived song structures that allowed for synchronised singing and movement. Each song’s music video provides an easy guide, making them instantly interactive. No guidance, practice or rehearsal is required!

Many will already be familiar with the album’s first two singles (and videos) - the seriously addictive ‘Just Move’ and the toe-tappin’, foot-stompin’ waiata ‘Tipatapata’ ft. Ngawai Campbell from Corrella.

Another favourite of Jeremy’s on the album is the new single ‘Jump The Rope’ HERE

“This song is all about enjoying the neurophysiological magic that happens when we all do the same movement at the same time; in this case, skipping! Our brain waves, breath and heart rates align, creating an incredible sense of connection - all while singing and grooving to the music,” says Jeremy.

Jeremy pulled together a top class all-ages team to work on the album. They include Christian Tjandrawinata on production, instrumentation and mixing; mastering engineer Vivek Gabriel and Adam Rowland of Awkward Animations on animation for the accompanying videos.

Jeremy also travelled to Napier to work with a kids choir made up of Lydia, Lennon and Marlow Clark (all aged under 10).

“They’re all super talented singers and musicians. Earlier in 2024 Lydia had won an Aotearoa Music Award for her original song 'Of Love We Are Made', so she's definitely a young talent to watch amongst a whole family obsessed with music,” says Jeremy.

Meanwhile, Jeremy worked with Ngawai Campbell on the waiata reo rua ‘Tipatapata’ and ‘Hop To It: E Peke’, which combines three well-known nursery rhyme tunes into one mega hook.

“My original plans were foiled when my friend and his son came down with the flu the week we were in the studio, so we had to quickly find a new collaborator. That's when Christian called up Ngawai, who he had worked with on several Corrella songs, and she agreed to drive up to Auckland from Tauranga that week with her three-month old son to save the day. She was such an inspiring, warm-hearted artist to work with who absolutely nailed those two songs while changing nappies and feeding her young pēpē.”

Although NZ-born, Jeremy has been living in The Netherlands for the past few years, and will be returning home to celebrate the release of SINGALONGERCISE. He’ll be visiting around 20 schools and kindergartens across Auckland and Tauranga, and will be performing at The Big Kids Weekend in Paihia on October 25 and at the Tuning Fork with Suzy Cato on November 16.

Fans of Jeremy's first foray into creating for children - the book (and song) ‘Sing Like A Unicorn’ - can also catch him doing a book reading and a short performance at Dorothy Butler Children’s Bookshop in Auckland on November 7th.
