New Zealand/UK electronic duo Sunset Tsunami share their official remix of The Elovaters’ fan favourite ‘Castaway’. Teaming up with Sydney producer MO2, they reframe the original’s reflective island energy into a fusion of reggae-steppers, sub-bass, and drum & bass percussion, taking the track into new club-focused territory.
Jackson Wetherbee’s emotive vocal performance is set against rolling low-end, syncopated skank rhythms, and spacious dub effects, bridging the laid-back character of The Elovaters’ Boston-rooted reggae with Sunset Tsunami’s Aotearoa and UK bass-culture influences.
One of the most-beloved acts in the contemporary US reggae scene, The Elovaters have fast become a new favourite on the scene after sell-out tours across the globe. The relationship with Sunset Tsunami was born out of the band’s first live shows in NZ in late-2024, which saw The Elovaters spend time in the iconic Roundhead Studios, alongside several sold-out shows. Originally appearing on their album ENDLESS SUMMER, this new remix not only sees Sunset Tsunami putting their spin on the track, but also continues The Elovaters’ ethos of combining with artists all over the globe, including 2024 collaborations with The Black Seeds and Corrella.
‘Castaway (Sunset Tsunami & MO2 Remix)’ arrives as the latest in a steady run of releases from the duo, following debut single ‘Dub Till Dawn’, their Israel Starr collaboration ‘Trigger Warning', and their dub/breaks rework of Corrella’s ‘Skeletons’. With their debut album due in January 2026, Sunset Tsunami continue to develop a sound grounded in rhythm, atmosphere, and modern dub-driven production.About Sunset Tsunami:
Sunset Tsunami is an electronic duo blending sample-rich beats with live instruments and vocals. The project began after the pair met at a Sydney warehouse party and bonded over a shared obsession with dance music and beat-making. The name stuck: Sunset Tsunami - powerful, a little ambiguous, and broad enough to carry their genre-fluid sound. Their tracks chase freedom over formulas, fusing hip-hop, ska, reggae, dub, drum & bass, neo-soul and house into something that feels both classic and forward-leaning. It’s music for open ears and late nights built on bass, melody and the thrill of discovery.
Scheduled for release in January 2026, their debut album DUB TILL DAWN will feature a mix of original tracks alongside remixes in an electronic dub/bass style.
