Aotearoa’s trailblazing country-pop star Kaylee Bell releases her new album Cowboy Up today. An 8-track body of work showcasing her resilience, identity and musical exploration as an artist and recently, a mum; capturing the spirit of Kaylee’s small town roots and big-dreams, bundled up into what is her most personal and dynamic music to date.

The album opens with title track and radio-smash, ‘Cowboy Up’, that immediately introduces a fiery flair, fueling the album. It moves through feel-good anthems; the bright ‘The Thing About Us’, the playful ‘Ring On It’ and small town romance tale of ‘Red Dirt Romeo’. Each song carries its own charisma and story, driven by Kaylee’s signature country-pop fusion. The songs were written and recorded in both Nashville and New Zealand, all whilst pregnant with her baby boy, James. There is a heartfelt nod to this, in the track ‘Heartbeat’.

“This was written in the moments after finding out I was pregnant, when everything shifted in an instant. It captures the shock, the wonder, and the overwhelming realisation that life as I knew it was about to change forever. Writing it was my way of processing all those feelings, the joy, the fear, and the deep sense of love that was already forming” Kaylee shares.

The beautiful moments of the album continue with the new single ‘Song For Shania’ - a shoutout to one of Kaylee's greatest musical influences, Shania Twain. The opening lyrics “I was in the backseat 6 years old ‘Still the One’ playing on the radio, just a little girl but it changed my world” set the tone for the song, a hat tip to an artist whose music has shaped and influenced Kaylee’s career.

A standout moment on Cowboy Up is Bell’s rendition of Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’, a full-circle moment for Bell, who grew up singing along to the iconic 90s track. “It’s one of those songs I just had to sing,” she says. “It’s iconic, and I’ve always loved it, especially the melody.” Bell wanted to give ‘Torn’ a fresh country-pop spin breathing new life into a classic that, surprisingly, had never been reimagined by a country artist.

Cowboy Up carries a beautiful contrasting narrative of vulnerability, love and self-worth. A solid rhythmic backbone with Bell’s story telling front and centre, anchored by her trademark powerful vocals, Nashville flair, hard-won wisdom and playful swagger.

Produced by longtime collaborator and Nashville based Tom Jordan, Bell brought Jordan out to New Zealand to work on the record “Working so closely with Tom on this record was the most creatively involved I’ve ever been in the recording process, and I absolutely loved it. I’ve been a fan of his band Seaforth for years, so getting to collaborate with Tom was really special. He brings such a unique stylistic flair and a wealth of experience, especially when it comes to what connects in a live show.”

Kaylee is set to take Cowboy Up on the road with five massive shows throughout the country this November. Fans can expect a full-throttle live show featuring Bell’s biggest hits, from the viral, banjo infused Cowboy Up with its newly-known singles and the rest to come,  to her smash radio hits ‘Boots N’ All’ and ‘Good Things’, along with fan favourites.
