Cleverly self-produced and timed perfectly ahead of his return to Gisborne’s Longline festival, ‘You Only Call Me on the Weekend’, fuses Jed’s catchy vocals & clever lyricism with layers of stripped back driving guitar, percussion, and his loop pedal mastery – delivering an unmistakable, infectious, tune!

“By the time the second chorus hits, you’ll be belting it out like it’s your favourite song!”

At just 20, Jed Skuse, multi-genre singer-songwriter and guitarist, hailing from Gisborne, is already a standout in the local music scene. Known for his signature lyrical style,  guitar & layered loop arrangements, a run of local music awards from age 16, all coming together alongside his energetic live performances!

Jed’s latest release, combines a cleverly orchestrated stripped back acoustic feel with a growing arrangement of loops, building with every layer. Designed to be performed solo with a loop pedal, the track combines layers of vocals, electric/acoustic guitar and percussive elements to create a sound that feels intimate yet full.

Drawing comparisons to Sticky Fingers and Ed Sheeran’s loop pedal era, Jed’s sound & style remains distinctly original. His witty lyricism shines through in this track, which was inspired by “a female friend who would only call me on the weekend.”

His passion for music and entertaining started at 11 years old, with help from an influential music teacher.  By 16, he claimed first place  in The East Coast Smokefree Rockquest finals for a 'solo/duo' artist, alongside winning The Rockshop Technology award.

At just 18, he was one of just seven finalists at the New Zealand Blues Festival competition, competing against duos to 9 piece bands, and taking home The Musicianship Award!

Now a familiar face in Gisborne’s vibrant live-music circuit, where he’s opened for acts such as Jon Toogood, and shared festival stage with the likes of Tiki Taane, Scribe & Messie. Jed's live sets seamlessly weave original material with crowd favourites, spanning genres like indie, funk, roots, and acoustic rock—anchored by his rich guitar work, signature vocals and groove-driven loops.

Jed returns to Gisborne's Longline Classic Festival this October, bringing his new single with him, just in time for the summer season.
