Indie-pop artist Greta van den Brink returns with her new single ‘Levi Jeans’, a smoky, cinematic track that leans into obsession, devotion, and blurred lines of reverence. It sits somewhere between the sacred and the sensual, tracing a kind of infatuation where myth, masculinity, and meaning start to fold into each other.

A genre-blurring creator whose work spans screen and stage, Greta first gained attention in film and stunt work, training at Sam Neill’s The Actor’s Program and performing stunts on major productions including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Apple TV’s Time Bandits. Her shift into music has followed a similar path, with debut single Road to Hell unexpectedly featuring on a Netflix soundtrack and setting the tone for her blend of direct storytelling and emotional clarity.

In the build up to her debut album ‘This Wasn’t Planned’, slated for release in late May, Greta has now released six singles off this body of work. From the dreamy lo-fi of Chill Cool Girl to the self-aware bite of GIMBGTBLBM, the confessional edge of Mr Ego, the widescreen feel of Alpine State of Mind, and the darker pull of Bodies, Greta has built a steady presence in Aotearoa’s indie-pop scene. Her latest work continues that thread, with Levi Jeans arriving as one of her most focused and sharply drawn releases yet.

Levi Jeans moves through smoke and blurred intimacy, built around a figure who feels larger than life but grounded in something rough and human - “dressed by smoke and cigarettes” and “a God I used to know.” The track sits in the tension between attraction and uncertainty, where admiration, faith, and desire start to overlap and shift. Lines like “Didn’t know that God wore Levi Jeans” and “the only language that he speaks is when he sings on rusted strings” trace a relationship shaped by pull and contradiction, where devotion and doubt exist at the same time.

Greta says, “The night before I wrote the song there was a powercut and my house was filled with candles. I wanted to bring the glowing or flickering light in the darkness to the studio. This song is about desire, being completely in awe of someone in a very raw and sensual way. Being enamoured by the salt of the earth, the rough and rugged. That’s how ‘Levi Jeans’ feels”.

Sonically, Levi Jeans leans into a smoky indie-pop sound, built on hazy textures and close, direct vocals. It holds a balance between grounded and dreamlike, pulling listeners into a space where clarity and confusion sit side by side.
