Logan Edwards is one of the South Island's busiest and most prominent young indie musicians. Logan never intended to be a solo artist. His entire music identity had previously been based on playing guitar and drums in bands The Beatniks, Ani Saafa, and Chump Change.
However, in late 2025 a writing spiral pulled Logan Edwards into a more personal and reflective venture, ultimately forming his first solo body of work, Belong to Some Else. The EP, set for release on June 19th, weaves between alt-pop, indie rock, and soft-edged folk, tracing this period of untethering.
Reflecting on the project, Logan shares: “Whilst avoiding writing only for myself for many years, one week in November 2025 saw an inescapable need to express and seek salvation through songwriting. The songs were written and tracked all within the month following.”
The second single from Belong to Someone Else, and the keystone of the EP. ‘Isla’, is out now. Leaning into an intimate, textured indie aesthetic, ‘Isla’ was written in a feverish time, when songwriting was constant and consuming.
"Isla was the last song written during the chaotic week that became the EP, I was pretty keen to shift perspective from the emotional tone I had written so far. The song was sparked when I overheard my dad talk about a family friend’s divorce and thinking about their young daughter, Isla. It became a reflection on innocence, passive misogyny, and my own guilt that I carry from my past relationships"
Produced by Beatniks bandmate and collaborator Sam Charlesworth, and with instrumentation from Louis Stevenson (IVY) on violin, and Josh Bottz (Emily Alice) on piano. The track carries a distinctly organic, lived-in quality, shaped in part by influences such as Adrianne Lenker and The Backseat Lovers.
The accompanying visualiser for ‘Isla’ features uncovered VHS footage of Logan’s sister as a toddler, recontextualised through stop motion lyrics.
Speaking about the visualiser, for ‘Isla’ Logan says: “My sister is the most important person in the world to me and has helped shape the man I am today so it feels very natural to have her be a part of this very personal song for me.”
‘Isla’ follows previously released lead single ‘Worry’ an energised yet vulnerable indie pop-rock track heavily inspired sonically by the tones of Pheobe Bridger’s Punisher LP.
‘Worry’ continues to build serious momentum, carving out a standout run across Aotearoa alternative Radio. The track stormed into the SRN charts with back to back top 5 placements while also making a powerful impression on the NZ's Radioscope Alt chart, peaking at #16. Additionally ‘Worry’ has featured and topped Radio One in Dunedin’s chart for several weeks since it's release, and earned a spot on the Official Aotearoa Music Charts as a Hot 20 Aotearoa single.
