Pop artist, songwriter and Broadway alum Ava Della Pietra returns with '3am', a late-night breakup track that captures the tense space between denial and wishful thinking. Released alongside a new captivating music video, the single finds Ava at her most intimate.
Built around the catchy refrain "nothing bad's gonna happen at 3am," the song explores the lies we tell ourselves to hold onto a relationship that is already coming undone. With a vocal performance that gradually shifts from soft reassurance to quiet resolve, '3am' zeros in on the moment when self-awareness strips away illusion.
"'3am' is about an on-again, off-again relationship that always seems to unravel in the early hours, when emotions are raw and we're at our most vulnerable," Ava shares. "It's about the pull of someone who feels impossible to quit, and the clarity that finally tells you it's time to walk away."
Produced by Alex Koste, the song's origin mirrors its subject matter. Late one night, faced with a difficult decision, Ava recorded a voice memo after a friend suggested she "take the night, think it over." That phrase sparked the first line of what would become the chorus. The next morning, she weaved a beautiful narrative around the idea that 3am is rarely the right time to make important decisions.
The official arthouse music video reinforces this tension, placing Ava in a dimly lit, dreamlike world where the same moments seem to repeat over and over. Subtle visual cues - glances at clocks, shadowed hallways, quiet moments alone - underscore the feeling of being stuck in a cycle, mirroring the psychological push and pull of the song.
At just 20 years old, Ava Della Pietra is one of the more impressive independent artists in emerging pop. A former Broadway performer in School of Rock and Les Misérables, she has since released more than 20 singles, written over 150 original songs, and amassed over 37 million global streams and 1.7 million followers across platforms. Her music videos have earned honours at more than a dozen international film festivals, and her songs have won over 15 national and international songwriting competitions, including the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the Songwriters Guild of America.
Currently enrolled in the Harvard University–Berklee College of Music Joint Studies Program, Ava balances studies in human evolution and music with a steady output of original pop tracks that reflect both craft and emotional depth. Following a run of releases that have showcased her range, from the theatrical intensity of 'Marionette' to the sharp pop instincts of 'Single for Life' and '2 Can Play', her latest song '3am' finds Ava at her most mature yet. The track is a measured, emotionally resonant single that underscores her continued evolution as a songwriter and storyteller.
