UK-born, Aotearoa-raised, LA-based singer and songwriter Ny Oh has today released her exquisite debut album, WILDWOOD, which includes the new single ‘Conduit’.

The 12-track WILDWOOD is a journey of self-love through different lenses. It’s genre bending in Ny Oh's special way. It’s simple and it’s content, and feels like a warm hug; a safe space; a day at home well spent.

The album was crafted across continents, WILDWOOD showcases one of the most exciting new talents to emerge from Aotearoa in recent years and sees Ny Oh stepping into her own, after spending years on the road as a touring musician with pop sensation Harry Styles.

“I started writing WILDWOOD while still on Harry Styles’ Love On Tour; a few of the songs were written in Aotearoa on visits home and mostly while I was recovering from three years on the road,” explains Ny Oh, who recorded the album over six days in Topanga Canyon in LA at Fivestar Studios.

Produced by Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Angel Olsen, Conor Oberst), all of the songs were recorded live, including vocals, with minimal overdubs.

“It’s a real snapshot into a special moment in time. Think of it as an analogue photograph. For me, it was a real treat to record it this way, to surrender to the moment - a theme that pops up a lot on this record,” she says.

“Jonathan Wilson has been a part of my story for a few years now. He's like a brother to me, so making this record was just a family time, lots of laughing, lots of good food, lots of silliness and you'll hear that translated in these performances.”

WILDWOOD contains the already released tracks ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, ‘Shine’, ‘Aperture’ and the new single, the high energy psychedelic folk infused ‘Conduit’, which is all about “thinking you’re in control and remembering you are definitely not.”

“‘Conduit’ doesn't let you decide how you feel about it. It's a song to let your mind wander off - you can move to it and meditate to it. It's a surrender, a prayer, a plea, a wish, nothing at all. For me, it reminds me to throw away my ego and let shit be - including this record!”

Other stand-out songs on WILDWOOD are ‘Time’ and ‘Marie’. “‘Time’ is a comfort song. I wrote it while still on the road with Harry, struggling with my identity after being out for so long. ‘Marie’, I wrote for my grandmother's 90th Birthday and can't perform or listen to it without crying, something she passed onto me - ha!”
