The Mint Chicks to release 'Crazy?Yes!Dumb? No!' on vinyl

The Mint Chicks will release the remastered 180 gram double vinyl, Cut at 45rpm Gatefold sleeve with original art, plus Download card on April 15th.

As 2006 dawned most keen observers thought The Mint Chicks were doomed. A cautionary tale of a band, New Zealand music’s Icarus. They’d put out a prickly debut album calculated to annoy as many as adored it. They’d turned down huge tours, kidnapped interviewers, pissed off their record company and then did their best to disappear.

Even their blazing comeback show was blighted. They supported the Yeah Yeah Yeahs after a long silent period, debuting many of the songs which would become Crazy?Yes!Dumb? No! Only, they played too loud, demolishing part of the venue – and one unlucky fan.

The stage was set for disaster, but in typical fashion they flexed and gave us triumph – probably the best New Zealand guitar album of this millennium to date. It contained romance and fury, songs which snuck onto ZM in the dead of night jammed up against troubled experimental interludes. It was vision, creation and execution, a kaleidoscopic art-pop masterpiece which shocked New Zealand and should have shocked the world.

It didn’t, back then. The rest of the planet would have to wait a few years for The Mint Chicks to explode like microwave popcorn – letting Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Silicon out of the bag – before knowing the Nielson brothers’ names. But for New Zealand, this album, at this moment, was nothing short of perfect!
