Artist: Trinity Roots

Date / Venue: Thursday June 9th, 2016 - The Tuning Fork, Auckland

Trinity Roots are currently on their 'This Road Tour' and last night we went along to their show at Auckland's Tuning Fork.

It was beautifully rad.

Warren, Rio and Ben with guest Ed Zucollo on keys and percussion were supported by Ed Waaka.

Ed's grooving yet sedated tunes were the perfect support for the main act to follow; I was entirely impressed, keep an ear out for Ed. I would've loved to have heard a bit more, the audience it seemed thought the same and he left the stage to much appreciation & applause.

Then came Trinity Roots, a band I've seen play live many times.  Once again the boys put on a stella show and I still class them as one of my favourite live performance bands in their genre ....what is their genre exactly ....? Warren candidly expressed his thoughts that they're "A jazz band don't you know...." well maybe they aren't and maybe he was being funny, but the first song was 24 mins long (which set the bar for the night) so they possibly have it in them?

One of the things I love about Warren apart from his unique beautiful husky voice is his onstage banter, always sporting a huge smile from the time he takes the stage. He is engaging, funny and at the same time completely lost in his music whilst playing and so is the audience.

Trinity Roots, all more than competent musicians, are a kiwi act I absolutely appreciate  watching as much as hearing onstage. Their groove and connection is more than apparent as their tunes pulse off the stage into you like glorious wind swept punchy fullness
with a good thump of drum and bass to rattle your ribs in case... gorgeous !

Half way through the set we were treated to a band swap-around, Ben played guitar & sang This Road backed by Warren on vocals & drums. Quietly the audience closed their eyes and swayed appreciatively and Ben was applauded loudly when he finished his set as lead vocalist.

I always find the Tuning Fork a great venue for them, with the perfect amount of intimate, amazing lighting. The sound which had seemed a little off on the vocals to me at the beginning, was sorted quickly and seemed to go unnoticed.

So obviously I had a great night out and for those who missed out, I'm sorry you did! For fans in Christchurch and Wellington you're next before the band heads across the Tasman.

Go see Trinity Roots this weekend, you will have a blast.

To the band if you're reading this, thank you for yet another fabulous evening out! Good luck with the rest of your tour.
