The Scene
By Lisa Diedricks
Auckland nightlife getting a bit too boring for you? Love Hip Hop and RnB? Then Auckland City Viaduct have got a treat for you. Yesterday, Allan Tonkin, who also owns “Club 53” on K'Rd, had his grand opening of Auckland’s newest and freshest bar/club “The Scene” which is sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka, and located on the viaduct harbour, with all of Auckland City’s beauty surrounding it, is set to become the hottest spot to treat yourself too!
Allan, has definitely brought his A-game with this one, with the vibe at an all- time high last night, the music took off, drinks were flowing and a beautiful atmosphere surrounded the place. The Senate who play at Sweat Shop, opened up the celebrations and had the crowd singing and dancing to covers of number one hits and also crowd favourites, they were definitely the perfect way to set up the evening! As they set the tone for the night, a few familiar faces cruised on through, NZ’s favourite “natural glow” Susan Paul made it down to show support, with hostess Mary Haddock-Staniland, bringing her to floor for a wee chat, it was awesome to see her! Other NZ personalities such as former All Black Pita Alatini, NRL star, Richie Barnett, former Warriors player, Logan Swan, Mika Haka from the Mika Haka foundation, and of course the act of the night, the Truebliss girls, all came to show their support and dance the night away!
Now what’s a club opening, without a special guest to perform, I myself fangirled OTT when I heard they were performing and I’m pretty sure when they came on stage my screams could be heard on everyone’s snap, ladies and gentleman, the beautiful and talent ladies of NZ’s favs TRUEBLISS! All four ladies made their way to the opening for a special live performance that had the crowd absolutely loving life, and reliving our teenage fantasies singing along to all their hits such as “Freedom” “Number One” “Tonight”. The girls even covered some popular hits that each of them chose and jammed out to, it was truly such an awesome feeling seeing them live again!
After spending the day/night there, it was clear that this was about to become Auckland’s freshest place to go to for after work drinks that lead into a night out on the town! With seats around the entire club, a bar that wraps around, wood floors, dope chandeliers, and everything leading toward a spacious and pretty cool dance floor, there’s no need to go anywhere else when everything you need is all around you! The bar/club is a family friendly environment, with bar snacks and food for your desired pleasure and an outdoors area so you can enjoy a nice vino or beersie while overlooking Auckland’s harbour, while listening to some live music. Night time approaches, you can be sure to find the DJ’s doing their thing on the decks, bringing the night to a party for all to enjoy!
With Allan already having such a successful club under his belt, you can be assured that this new venture will be just as amazing, and knowing that this adds value to the Auckland nightlife scene, THE Scene will truly be something to look out for!
After having a quick chat with Allan about the night, he says he “wanted to open a place that you could come to, directly from work or earlier, and enjoy some casual wines, and have the luxury of staying all night for the club experience, two bird’s one stone really”
With his wife Monique by his side, and holding down the night alongside him, the duo put on a spectacular night, with help from gorgeous host Mary Haddock-Staniland, the night was drawn together by some very talented and creative people. All of which deserve a round of applause for a job well done!
So if you’re thinking you’ve seen it all, been to them all, stop right there and go check it out! You won’t be disappointed!
