Tegan And Sara - Heartthrob
By Ashley Karsanidis
Released February 8th, 2013 - Warner Music
Wow. I gotta say I did not expect this to be that amazing.
The hit song ‘Closer' from their current album was the first taste I got from this Indie-Pop duo. The mix of the different genres along with their aptitude gives their music an 80s disco vibe. Heartthrob is the kind of album you would have blasting in the background of a summer road trip with the girls. It's the kind of album to listen to post-breakup. I can definitely see myself bringing down the roof playing this on the sound system while I stereotypically consume ice cream straight from the tub in self-pity. But don't let that restrict you from when, where, why or how you listen to this music.
The synthesisers, the drums, the piano melodies, the chimes, the rings all that and more accompanied by the sweet tone of their voices are what make this album a work of art. You've got to check it out. Just once. Just to hear it all together in the most pleasant way you will ever hear those instruments composed into a song. Each song has all elements blended perfectly together in a way I've never heard before. As well as making your heart throb while you sing along to the melancholy lyrics, the upbeat flair it's also catchy and exuberant. It's kinda groovy, dare I say it.
Though this is the first I've heard of Tegan And Sara, they started out in 1999. Their successful career includes collaborations with artists like David Guetta, touring with The Killers and Neil Young, performing at many festivals around the world, and appearing and performing on talk shows. Their music has also been featured on hit TV shows which include The Vampire Dairies, Grey's Anatomy, 90210, Veronica Mars andOne Tree Hill. They also released a DVD which contained touring footage, interviews, and a stripped-down studio concert.
I can't believe how successful they are yet I had never once heard of them - and I wish I did. It all just makes me wanna say, ‘wow.'
