Tour News - The Ocean return to Aotearoa for two amazing shows
Presented by: Valhalla Touring
Acclaimed post-metal band THE OCEAN return to Aotearoa this winter to wow audiences. Coalescing around a shared vision of limitless sonic exploration and heaviness, The Ocean is a group of artists that has released 10 studio albums in different constellations for over 20 years. 2023 saw the release of the band’s ninth album Holocene - the heavily conceptual collective’s most exploratory and varied release yet - and the conclusion of the paleontological era they began with 2018’s Phanerozoic I: Paleozoic and continued with 2020’s Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic / Cenozoic. Having flirted more with extreme metal influences on these records than ever before, the arrival of Holocene saw the band - lead by guitarist and mastermind Robin Staps - forge a new path into a world of looped electronics and more subtle melodic experimentation while philosophically reflecting on humanity as always, this time on the nascent realities of a post-pandemic world.
"...a dynamic crusher that opens with trip-hop beats and psychedelic vibes inspired by Massive Attack and builds to the sort of massive, tectonic heaviness that fans have come to expect from the Berlin-based group."
~ Revolver Magazine
The Ocean will be performing with Spook The Horses and Pull Down The Sun.
