Tami Neilson announces NZ tour, with special gust, Jay Neilson
Presented by Neilson Records
Multi award-winning Canadian-born, New Zealand singer-songwriter Tami Neilson needs no introduction. Having become one of NZ’s most beloved artists of the modern era, blending country, soul and rockabilly into her signature high-octane performances, Neilson’s songs have tugged at our heart-strings and soothed our souls.
Accompanied by Tami’s brother and longtime co-writer/collaborator, Jay Neilson, the Big Boss Mama will bring her extensive songbook to the road this October. With 7 dates across New Zealand in a rare, up-close and personal show, fans can experience the songs acoustically, as they were written.
Growing up on the road as two fifths of Canadian country group The Neilsons, Tami and Jay were supporting the likes of Johnny Cash from a very young age. With a wealth of stories from the road, the pair are set to bring some smiles, laughs and tears as they tell the tales behind some of Tami’s biggest songs, like their Silver Scroll Award-winning Walk Back to Your Arms, as well as exclusively premiering brand new songs from Tami’s upcoming new album.
Neilson’s music has become synonymous with our lives, adored by those at home and around the world for her powerhouse voice and heart-pounding soul injected into every word and every note. Neilson’s 2014 record Dynamite! changed the game musically, attracting a storm of worldwide attention. The album was named one of The Guardian’s Top 10 Country Albums of the Year and climbed to #1 on the NZ Charts in a spine-chillingly exciting triumph for the hard-working, independent artist. It would later take out Best Country Music Album at the 2015 NZ Music Awards, and forge the name ‘Tami Neilson’ into the cultural fabric of New Zealand music forever.
Her recent internationally acclaimed record Sassafrass! (nominated for Album of the Year at the NZ Music Awards) secured a number of glowing accolades worldwide, from the likes of Rolling Stone Country, American Songwriter, Pop Matters and No Depression. Tami now plays to sold out crowds across North America, New Zealand and Europe, on a rigorous international touring schedule. Happy to be coming home, and bringing the magic of family with her; this is one charmer of a live experience not to be missed.
