Night at Auckland Museum returns this July

The popular, sell-out event Night at Auckland Museum will come to life once more this winter at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. In its ninth year running, this impressive after hours experience excites and intrigues Museum guests every time.

Across six nights in July 2018, the Auckland Museum will see its galleries animated with a large-scale performance event. On Saturday 7, Sunday 8, Monday 9, Wednesday 18, Thursday 19 and Friday 20 July, the Museum doors will open for a unique free-roaming family programme.

Bring a torch and get friends and whānau excited to wander amongst the Museums taonga by night-light. Voices and shadows will echo amidst the glass cases and ancient objects. Explore the darkened galleries at your own pace and come face-to-face with a multitude of quirky characters with secrets to share! Who knows who you might meet?

Guests will discover a wide range of notable historical luminaries; from Pacific navigators, a Tea House proprietor, Basil the dinosaur, a suffragist (she’ll be looking for votes!), a Princess Warrior …. the list goes on. Night at Auckland Museum makes for a lively mid-winter’s evening for the whole family.

“The Auckland Museum’s priority is to foster a sense of community through shared participation and engagement,” says Tim Hart, Auckland Museum Director of Public Experience. “Each year Night at the Auckland Museum continues to enrichen the audience experience through its dynamic and engaging programming.”

For the first time ever, Night at Auckland Museum will offer up a compelling twist to this well-loved event, with two special adult-only nights on Saturday 7 & Friday 20 July. Each adult ticket includes a glass of bubbles, and the Grand Foyer bar will be open all evening for guests for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and light nibbles. After guests have explored the Museum, they’ll enjoy a live musical performance, the grammarphone band, and a secret celebration to end the evening. These two later-evening events are exclusively 18+.

Night at Auckland Museum is a sell-out event, so don’t wait to get your tickets for this unique, immersive event. Tickets to both all-ages and 18+ Nights at Auckland Museum are on sale from 25 May 2018 via aucklandmuseum.com
