Coastella 2019 line-up revealed
New Zealand’s most talked about boutique music festival Coastella returns to the stunning Kapiti Coast with an eclectic trans tasman lineup. Taking place on Saturday 23rd February, the 2019 programme will showcase a diverse range of acts, from jungle-rock-blues and slow-burning soul to psych-rock jams and up-and-coming indie pop.
Celebrating 20 years as one of New Zealand’s most influential bands, Trinity Roots will take to the stage with a hypnotic live show like no other. This year their breakthrough album ‘True’ was re-pressed on vinyl and celebrated with four sold out shows across the country. C.W. Stoneking (Aus) will bring his charming jungle-rock-blues to the coast to delight festival goers young and old, along with The Beths who will join the line-up straight back from a huge UK/European tour. 2018 has been a breakout year for The Beths who have been selling out shows at home and overseas. Rolling Stone named their song ‘Happy Unhappy’ Song of the Summer, so don’t miss this chance to hear it in action.
Hailing from the creative laneways of Melbourne, Mama Kin Spender (Aus) will be making their Wellington debut at Coastella. This genre-bending soulful duo will present a special collaboration with Wellington ‘young prof’ choir Supertonic. Expect an epic chorus of singers, underpinned by brooding guitars and primal drums. Also from across the ditch are Bullhorn (Aus), an epic 10-piece brass ensemble fronted by the extraordinary rapper Roman MC and backed by one groovy drummer.
Dunedin’s Soaked Oats will be bringing their slinky sludge pop and southern wit to the party straight off the back of a highly successful US tour, along with Auckland’s alt-pop kings Ha the Unclear. Modern blues-rock band The Miltones have been turning heads and winning hearts at home and abroad with their masterly live show, and finally we welcome Kāpiti Coast ‘gothic folktronica’ duo Rosy Tin Teacaddy to complete the Coastella 2019 lineup.
Once the sun sets the music and dancing will continue into the night, with the Coastella After Party (R18), helmed by The Richter City Rebels. Join Wellington’s finest New Orleans second line for a night of soulful grooves and brass bangers.
One day of Coastella entertainment not enough for you? Well this year the programme has been extended to two days with Coasted on Sunday 23rd February. Come down for a stripped back dance party with some bangin’ beats to shake off those post Coastella blues. Presented by Radioactive.fm and Coastella, Coasted will feature music from Radioactive DJs along with a guest spot by local Kapiti hip hop group Simloco.
Located in the grassy amphitheatre at Southward Car Museum on the sunny Kapiti Coast, Coastella is a chance to unwind and experience a whole world of culture right on your doorstep. There’s plenty for the little ones to enjoy too, with The Havana FunZone providing a range of activities throughout the day, including circus entertainers and much more. Get up close and personal with the artists at Tiny Town, the 10 foot shipping container converted into into an intimate musical venue. Once again Coastella will present the best of New Zealand craft beer, food and wine to keep you going ‘til the sun goes down.
At Coastella you’ll hear it all: music you already know and love, as well as your new favourite band. Bring on the sunshine and don’t miss New Zealand’s most anticipated boutique festival.
