Silo Park turning up the heat
As the Auckland weather continues to impress, Silo Park continues to be the spot for your summer outdoor drinking from Friday night, right through to Sunday afternoon. We also have (arguably) Auckland Waterfronts largest area of public shade - the infamous ‘stretch tent.’
Tonight Silo Cinema returns with Florian Habicht's documentary - Spookers. Florian takes you on a journey behind the gory curtain of the hugely popular theme park at the former Kingseat Hospital to show us the real lives of the actors and the close knit community they have created. Florian will be there to introduce the film and he's bringing some of his Spookers crew too, all dressed and ready to scare!
Saturday welcomes the early risers from 7am for Good Karma coffee and a range of healthy and baked treats from Kokako to start the weekend right alongside workshops with Waitakere Central Community Arts Council. Have a go at Rangoli (clay lamp painting), abstract acrylic paint pouring or creative photography, all with a soundtrack to world music performers Ethno New Zealand.
Sunday sees the first Ice Cream Sundae where Auckland's best loved ice cream aficionados will descend upon Silo Park with an abundance of sweet treats. Vendors range from OOB Organic, Hawaiian Pineapple Hut, Little Island Coconut Creamery, Ben & Jerry's and Nice Blocks just to name a few!
Alongside your favourite icy delights will be a hot selection from Auckland’s finest food trucks, super cool DJs, modern twists on ice cream inspired alcoholic drinks and body artist Jane Ellis creating an ice cream inspired living canvas throughout the day.
Auckland Anniversary Day down at Silo Park welcomes a learning space from For The Love Of Bees Project where you can learn about their organic market garden, how to start your own bee garden and if you’re lucky you can take some plants home with you too. The Phonic Flight Trio will also make an appearance, performing live from 3.30pm.
What else has Silo Park got for your February? Well blockbuster movies like La La Land, The Labyrinth and Dunkirk are just the beginning, they also have the return of the Car Boot Sale of the Future and Photo Laundry on February 11.
The Car Boot Sale of The Future is guaranteed to be a fun-filled afternoon of rummaging and rustling through trinkets, treasures and gems from the garage and beyond all while listening to some of Auckland’s finest DJs, snacking on nibbles from your favourite food trucks, and lets not forget, a gentle tipple from the Silo Park Bar.
Photo Laundry first started in St Petersburg, Russia in 2010 by Andrei Kezin and has travelled to 40 cities across 7 countries and it first debuted at Silo Park back in 2014. The concept? Photographers of all skill levels are welcome to showcase their work in the improvised gallery made of washing lines using pegs. Once they have placed their work they are welcome to take another photographer’s work home with them, how’s that for a sweet deal?
Hopeless romantics rejoice Silo Cinema will be showing Princess Bride on Valentines Day (February 14) for those who love the film or love to be surrounded by lovers. Get in early to secure your picnic area.
On February 18, for the first time ever, Silo Park will be transformed into Silo Farm with a wide range of classic farming activities. They’ll be a petting zoo, the finest sheepdogs in town, a classic gumboot toss competition and rural-style wood-cutting with a bicycle powered saw.
As summer continues to fire, Silo Park is just getting started and don’t forget it’s all free!
