First line-up revealed for One Love Festival 2018

Shaggy announced as a headliner for the 2018 One Love Festival

One Love returns to Tauranga in January 2018, with a first line-up announcement that’s fitting of the festival’s reputation as one of summer’s best and brightest events.

New Zealand’s premiere celebration of roots, rock and reggae has moved from Waitangi weekend and will now be held on Auckland Anniversary weekend, across two days -January 27 and 28 at Tauranga Domain.

In true One Love tradition, some of the biggest names in music from around the world have been carefully hand-selected to play at the festival.

Bringing their sweet sounds to New Zealand for the first-time ever is Toronto-bred, LA-based MAGIC! Their 2014 smash reggae-pop tune ‘Rude’ held the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, charted in 41 countries, sold more than 7 million singles and has had more than a billion hits on You Tube.

They’re joined by the legendary Shaggy. The Grammy-winning Jamaican singer has been a force to be reckoned with since he exploded on the scene in 1993. He’s gone on to release hit after hit, from ‘Oh Carolina’ and ‘Boombastic’ to ‘It Wasn’t Me’ and ‘Strength of a Woman’.

Straight outta Compton, J Boog will make a triumphant return to the festival. A firm favourite, he’ll be joined by Hot Rain feat. Siaosi. The Californian-based Common Kings are also returning after their mind-blowing One Love debut in 2016.

Also on the bill are the legendary British reggae act Aswad who hit the big time in 1988 with their chart-topping tune ‘Don’t Turn Around’. And flying the flag for Hawaiian sounds are Maoli who took the islands by storm in 2008 with their debut album Groovin; and singer-songwriter Anuhea with her sweet blend of pop and reggae.

The legendary Black Uhuru are looking forward to bringing their Jamaican reggae to Aotearoa next year. Forming in 1972, the highly-respected band won the first-ever awarded Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1982 with their gem, Anthem.

As always the two-day event will host some of the best homegrown talent, with the first line-up including House of Shem, 1814, Sons of Zion, Sammy J, Ardijah, Herbs, Swiss, Foundation and a special appearance by the Marley NZ All Stars featuring a bunch of Kiwi legends, including Tiki Taane, Laughton and Fran Kora, Boh Runga, Logan Bell,Ria Hall and Annie Crummer.

With a reputation as one of Aotearoa’s best summer festivals, hosting a relaxed and upbeat vibe that draws punters from all over the globe, tickets to One Love have sold out for the past two years running. Situated right in the heart of Tauranga - one of New Zealand’s top holiday destinations - camping and glamping is available.

Stay tuned for the second line-up announcement on August 1, when another big headliner will be revealed, alongside a who’s who of talent.
