Comedian Jim Gaffigan announces NZ shows
Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show, Flight of the Conchords, Portlandia, Bored to Death) is heading to New Zealand to perform his debut shows in Auckland and Wellington.
Gaffigan is a Grammy-nominated comedian, actor, writer, producer, two times New York Times best-selling author, top touring performer, and multi-platinum-selling father of five, known around the world for his unique brand of clean, family-friendly humour.
With sold out live shows at some of the biggest venues on the planet and iconic film and TV roles including his critically acclaimed sitcom The Jim Gaffigan Show, Gaffigan is one of the most familiar faces in comedy in the world today. Last in Australia in 2014 for the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival at the Sydney Opera House, this will be the first time fans in Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland and Wellington can see Jim live.
A giant in the world of comedy, Jim is one of only ten comics in history to sell out New York City’s Madison Square Garden, and has performed for Pope Francis and over a million people at Philadelphia’s Festival of Families. Gaffigan is also the most popular comic on global streaming site Pandora with over 647 million spins to date amongst their users. Gaffigan has also appeared on all three versions of Law & Order (Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Criminal Intent).
Much like his self-titled, semi-fictitious sitcom, which was praised by The Los Angeles Times as ‘fun and funny’, and People Magazine as ‘one of summer TV’s bright spots’, Gaffigan’s classically observational stand-up largely revolves around one man’s struggle to balance fatherhood, stand-up comedy and an insatiable appetite (for food!). Gaffigan and his wife Jeannie also wrote, produced and starred in the critically acclaimed, single-camera television show for two seasons.
In 2013, Jim’s first book Dad Is Fat was released by Crown Publishing and debuted at #5 on The New York Times Best Sellers List and remained on the list for 17 weeks. His second book Food: A Love Story was released in 2014 and debuted at #3 on The New York Times Best Sellers List.
This January, Gaffigan premiered his fifth one hour stand up special Cinco on Netflix. In an unprecedented deal, Netflix also purchased the exclusive rights to Gaffigan’s four other specials Beyond the Pale (2006), King Baby (2009), Mr. Universe (2012) and Obsessed (2014). Obsessed premiered at #1 on iTunes which marked the fifth time Gaffigan reached the Top 25 Comedy Category on iTunes. The album also earned a nomination for ‘Best Comedy Album of the Year’ at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
On the big screen Gaffigan has starred in Three Kings, Hot Pursuit, and 17 Again. 2017 is set to be big for Gaffigan with six movies set to premiere this year; The Bleederalongside Naomi Watts, Ron Perlman and Elisabeth Moss, Drunk Parents alongside Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek, The Guardian Brother with Meryl Steep, Nicole Kidman and Ed Norton, Chappaquiddick with Ed Helms, Bruce Dern and Kate Mara, and the leading role in animated film Duck Duck Goose.
