112 announced as special guests for TLC's Auckland show
TLC are heading to New Zealand for the very first time this November, and just added to the line-up in Auckland only is American R&B quartet 112. Local producer/artist Kings has been added to all three New Zealand concerts!
Renowned for their soulful slow jams, 112 (pronounced one-twelve) had a string of hits throughout the late 90 and early 2000s including a feature on Puff Daddy and Faith Evans’ Grammy-winning monster smash ‘I’ll Be Missing You’.
Their live show, featuring tracks like the impressive ultimate club banger ‘Dance With Me’ and the Grammy-nominated ‘Peaches & Cream’, has seen 112 tour with iconic artists like Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston.
Originally signed to Bad Boys Records and then onto Def Jam Records, the group officially reunited in 2010 and have been in the studio working a new album and touring throughout America.
Kings is well-known among music circles in New Zealand where he has been working as a music producer and collaborating with various artists for the past six years.
Recently signed to Warner Music, Kings’ debut single ‘Don’t Worry Bout’ It’ peaked at #1 on the NZ iTunes chart and is currently sitting in the top ten of the official NZ singles chart. These three shows will be rare live appearances for Kings and fans will be itching to hear his uplifting and innovative tracks for themselves.
Formed in Atlanta in 1991, TLC are a five-time Grammy Award winning act who captured the world’s attention with their sassy and sophisticated R&B set against a socially conscious lyrical style. These three empowered women, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes would go on to sell over 65 million records worldwide.
Tragically in 2002, Lopes was killed in a car accident while spending time in Honduras. Refusing to call it quits in honour of their fallen sister, T-Boz and Chilli have since continued to tour worldwide.
In 1994 TLC released CrazySexyCool. Selling over 11 million copies in America alone, the record was nominated for six Grammys, and winning Best R&B Album. The truly iconic nature of CrazySexyCool remains true, following an entry in Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.
Featuring iconic jams like ‘Waterfalls’, ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’ (penned by the late icon Prince) and ‘Creep’, it’s no surprise the album has become an R&B classic.
Their third record FanMail received eight Grammy Award nominations, taking home the coveted Album of the Year and Best R&B Album while its singles ‘No Scrubs’ won Record of the Year and ‘Unpretty’ won Best Video. In Australia, the album is certified platinum, while in America it’s achieved a diamond certification for selling more than 10 million copies.
Earlier this year, TLC announced a new album for 2016, their first in over a decade. Very little is known about the album, with the only public statement from the ladies reading:
“This album, our final album, is dedicated to all of you that have stuck with us, always challenging us to do our best. And of course, it's for the new fans too! We just want to put out great music that touches everyone. That's it."
Hitmaker Montell Jordan has been dropping hip hop and soul jams since bursting onto the scene with chart-topping single ‘This Is How We Do It’, which became one of the best-selling records of 1995. His debut album of the same name debuted at #1 in America, launching Montell Jordan into international stardom.
To celebrate his breakthrough single’s 20-year anniversary last year, Jordan took to the stage to perform ‘This Is How We Do It’ during halftime at a Golden State Warriors NBA game in Oakland, USA, proving once again that he’s still the ultimate entertainer.
TLC were joined at their debut Australian shows by a full band and stunning backdrop images paying homage to Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes with reviewers and fans alike touched by the nostalgic nature of the shows and reminded of TLC’s truly iconic musical archives.
Their return to Australia and first ever New Zealand shows later this year are set to be just as spectacular. Don’t miss one of the most iconic R&B groups of our generation taking to the stage for a series of not-to-be-missed concerts this November.
