Entries open for 2016 Silver Scroll Awards

Music reflects the world we live in. Songs tell the stories of our common experiences, showing us the ways that we are the same, and sometimes encouraging us to view the world a little differently – inviting us to view the world through someone else’s eyes.

The APRA Silver Scroll Awards honour the craft of writing songs, and the people that write them.

Entries are now open for the 2016 APRA Silver Scroll Awards, including entries for:

·         APRA Silver Scroll Award – for contemporary popular music
·         APRA Maioha Award – celebrating outstanding songwriting in te reo Māori
·         SOUNZ Contemporary Award – recognising inspired contemporary composition
·         APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film
·         APRA Best Original Music in a Series

Entries for all awards close at 5pm on Monday 6th June.

The winner of the APRA Silver Scroll Award receives a $5000 cash prize, and takes the coveted APRA Silver Scroll Award trophy into their care for eleven months.

The APRA Silver Scroll Award is New Zealand’s only peer-voted music award, with the winner being decided by APRA’s nationwide membership of songwriters and composers.

All entries to the award are first narrowed down to a long-list of 20 songs by a panel of five prominent APRA members, which are then voted on by the wider APRA membership of over 10,000 New Zealand songwriters and composers. The votes of the wider APRA membership determine the winner of the Silver Scroll Award, as well as the five finalists.
