Real Groovy announces Record Store Day festivities
This Saturday is Record Store Day and Real Groovy is the place to be. At the new store, at 369 Queen St, over the road from the old Real Groovy: it is bursting at the seams with new vinyl releases, quality pre-loved titles, turntables, pop culture merchandise, DVDs and CDs. Select from the NZ Music Consignment Table PLUS coffee available in the courtyard from ‘You're Welcome Coffee’ and grab one of the best burgers in town from ‘Wise Boys Burgers’.
There will be a number of international and local RSD releases, but the emphasis this year will be on re-taking control of the event with a huge drop of fresh second hand vinyl, live bands, DJs, and the simple joy of being part of a likeminded, musical community. Discover some of New Zealand’s newest talent that not everybody has heard of… you can actually like their first albums better!!
Purple Pilgrims is the experimental dream pop project of Clementine and Valentine Adams. Originating from Christchurch but now Singapore based, their first full-length album - Eternal Delight elegantly encapsulates the combination sleek instrumentation and ancient-sounding melodies is half sci-fi, half fairytale and completely fascinating.
The Beths are Elizabeth Stokes, Jonathan Pearce, Ivan Luketina-Johnston and Benjamin Sinclair. They are an indie powerpop four-piece from Auckland that have just released debut EP Warm Bloodciting their formative musical experiences include“writing raps age 6 over Sega Megadrive menu music” and “Iron Maiden”. Solid.
L V J aka Zeus Dupree (aka Steeze Jobs aka Yung@Heart aka Muirs' Dad aka Jacquie 4Chan) –self described as “ SWEAT DRENCHED BOY YELLIN CRAZY SHIT OVER UNTAMED BEATS, WILD LIKE ENDANGERED SPECIES.” All caps not accidental. Debut album The Shaka Tape is out now along with EP Pizzaboy.
Roy Irwin has released over 100 songs both as a solo artist and band member. He has recently released LP, S.O.D.A. on 1:12 Records and Danger Collective Records (LA) has resulted in Irwin teaming up with friends, Matt Rapley, Kim Martinengo & Vincent Lum as his backing band PISS.
