St. Jerome's Laneway Festival has announced that Laneway favouriteCourtney Barnett has agreed to join the line-up for 2016, returning toAuckland after a wildly successful New Zealand tour in October that saw her playing to a sold-out St James Theatre. Barnett replacesTobias Jesso Jr. on the bill, who has withdrawn from all Laneway dates.

2015 has been a huge year for Melbourne-based Courtney Barnett, who released her critically acclaimed studio album debut Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit in March. The album hit #4 on the Australian charts and reached the top 20 in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the US.

Since the release, Barnett has been performing at venues of increasing size around the world, at festivals across America and Europe, as well as opening for Blur at the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden. Just last week, Barnett won Best Female, Breakthrough Artist and Independent Release at Australia's prestigious ARIA awards.

Laneway is known for finding the best music and putting together a killer line-up. Barnett joins an outstanding group of acts with the return of favourites like Chvrches, Beach House and Flume and first time Laneway artists including Vince Staples, Shamir and artist of the moment Grimes.

Sadly, due to conflicting commitments with his songwriting and recording obligations, Tobias Jesso Jr. is no longer able to perform at the 2016 Laneway Festival. Tobias says "I'm sorry to let anyone down, and appreciate all of your love, support, and understanding".

Laneway is Auckland's only inner-city music festival and 2016 marks the fifth and final year at the glorious and breezy harbourside Silo Park location, just a five minute stroll from transport hub Britomart.

To give Silo Park the farewell it deserves. Laneway are making sure it has everything you loved about last year and more - double the shade to keep you comfortable, more toilets and the Hey Seuss stage at the wharf is getting more lighting and a bigger PA.

It seems almost unbelievable now, but when Laneway first arrived at Silo Park in 2012, capacity was just 6000. The site that was available then was just over half of what was enjoyed in 2015 and the site looked completely different with no Thunderdome, no Grassy Knoll and no gantry.
